Our corporate headquarters, including our DNA testing laboratory, is based in Fairfield, OH in the greater Cincinnati Area. Opportunity Overview

Laboratory Technologists play a key role in executing basic laboratory procedures with accuracy, precision, and efficiency. This individual ensures compliance with standardized protocols while maintaining quality control in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a detail-oriented setting, follows procedures meticulously, and contributes to the integrity of DNA analysis. As part of a collaborative team, Laboratory Technologists are responsible for processing samples within the paternity lab while adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines to support DDC’s mission of providing reliable DNA testing services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs
  • Process biological samples, including extraction, quantification, amplification, and analysis of DNA.
  • Operate laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, supervisors, and management to optimize workflows.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with the Company’s quality system requirements through training and adherence to policies, procedures and processes
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and data.
  • Other duties as assigned or become evident
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science required
  • Prior laboratory experience (academic or professional) preferred.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction and PCR amplification.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures is required. 
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions is required.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints in a high-volume laboratory setting.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in performing laboratory tasks.
  • Absolute integrity in the processing of customer samples and reporting results.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Management (LIMS) systems a plus.
  • Good written and verbal communication. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform precise, repetitive tasks with hands, such as pipetting, handling small equipment, and manipulating delicate lab tools.
  • Must have excellent vision, with or without correction, to accurately read lab instruments, observe small details, and identify samples and reagents.
  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, especially during laboratory processing, and analysis.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, including laboratory equipment, containers, and supplies, as needed.
  • Bending and Reaching: Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting motions required to access shelves, equipment, and laboratory stations.
  • Environmental Exposure: Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to chemicals, biological samples, and other laboratory materials, following all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ability to wear and comply with safety protocols involving protective gear such as gloves, lab coats, safety glasses, and masks.

Compensation:

  • $20.50 + 10% shift differential ($22.55/hour)

Schedule:

  • Mon-Friday 12:30pm-9:00pm
