Position Summary
The Accessible Learning Trainee is a developmental opportunity within Student Disability Services (SDS) that provides hands-on training in supporting accessible instructional materials and technology-based accommodations for students with disabilities. Under the direct supervision of the Accessible Technology Coordinator, the incumbent will be trained to assist with accessible media services, including captioning, audio description, alternative media, and accessible learning resources to help ensure students receive timely and equitable access to course content and university programs. Working closely with Accessible Technology staff, Accommodations Counselors, and Media Captioning personnel, the Accessible Learning Trainee supports service coordination, student communication, and accessible material preparation while gaining experience in disability services and inclusive educational practices. This position contributes to SDS's mission of removing academic barriers, promoting inclusive learning environments, and supporting student success
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with accessible media and captioning services by processing requests, communicating with students and faculty, preparing materials, and supporting quality assurance activities.
- Assist with the delivery of alternative media and accessible technology services, including electronic text, assistive technology resources, and accessible instructional materials.
- Provide frontline support for students and faculty by explaining accessible learning processes, coordinating communication, and sharing information about available services and resources.
- Support Student Disability Services operations by assisting with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) service scheduling, data tracking, reporting, and service continuity during peak periods.
- Participate in training and professional development while learning established processes for accessible learning services and referring complex questions to professional staff.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated as non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
Student Disability Services (SDS) in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity provides a full range of accommodations and services to over 4,500 students with physical, psychological, and learning disabilities, facilitating equal access to the educational process. This is accomplished through direct service support, review of campus accessibility, adaptive technology, assessment, test accommodation, and a variety of other services. Accommodations vary according to types of disabilities and may include sign language interpreting; provision of alternative formats, such as electronic text or Braille; computer-assisted real-time captioning; test accommodations; advising; assistive computer technology; cart transportation services, and numerous other services. Provision of these academic support services, technology and advocacy promotes the retention and graduation of students with disabilities at SDSU.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis.
Key Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and assistive technology hardware and software to support accessibility services.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, alternative media production, electronic text conversion, media captioning, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) accommodation processes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities and applying accessibility principles and best practices to support equitable access in educational settings.
- Experience supporting disability services or accessibility initiatives, including the use of accessible technology and accommodation management systems.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and provide effective support to diverse campus constituents.
- Certification or specialized training in accessibility standards, assistive technology, or a related field is preferred.

Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department's budget and equity guidelines.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,150 - $5,076/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $4,150/month.
