Freight Specialist

Remote in India

Shift Timings: 5:30 PM IST to 2:30 AM IST, with a flexibility of ±2 hours based on business requirements and U.S. Daylight Saving Time (DST).

Role Description:

The Freight Specialist is responsible for helping book less-than-truckload (LTL), partial, and full truckload (FTL) shipments across multiple business verticals that include but are not limited to: internal transfers within the ShipBob network, client customer orders, client inbound, and client B2B orders. In addition, the freight specialist is responsible for proactively solutioning any service disruptions and/or potential disruptions that result in failing to meet the agreed-upon customer service guarantee. The Freight Specialist will monitor carrier performance closely and make any necessary adjustments to our carrier portfolio due to noncompliance and/or repeated service failures. The Freight Specialist will also address any internal as well as merchant driven freight status inquiries and escalations. Potential for new role "advancement" within 2 to 3 years depending on business needs and growth. This role reports to Manager, Carrier.

What you'll do:

  • Work independently to identify, investigate, and proactively solve carrier service disruptions and/or potential disruptions that result in failing to meet agreed upon customer service guarantees.
  • Help manage LTL and TL transportation spend by utilizing Shipbob tools and processes to identify the lowest cost carrier to meet shipment requirements.
  • Strengthen ShipBob Freight's key performance indicators with a focus on on-time pick and on-time delivery by closing monitoring carrier and facility performance and escalating instances of noncompliance
  • Responsible for reviewing open orders and optimizing load plans based on critical shipment attributes that include but are not limited to: pallet count, weight, origin, destination. Ship by date, and Deliver by Date
  • Book less-than-truckload (LTL), partial, and full truckload (FTL) shipments across multiple business verticals that include but are not limited to: internal transfers within the ShipBob network, client customer orders, client inbound, and client B2B orders
  • Monitor carrier performance closely and make any necessary adjustments to our carrier portfolio due to noncompliance and/or repeated service failures
  • Timely address freight inquiries and escalations submitted by both our internal client care teams as well as from the client directly
  • Work cross functionally in a fast paced environment between various departments, both internally and externally
  • Track missed delivery and pick-up appointments for both merchant and ShipBob managed freight and recover any rolled shipments
  • Maintain multiple reports specific to Freight team standard work.
  • Comply to all food safety and compliance policies and regulations.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

What you'll bring to the table:

  • Excellent multitasking ability as there are several platforms traversed daily.
  • Flexibility on schedule (may require some overtime / staying late due to tasks).
  • Solid analytical skills, with experience in reports, Excel, Google and following processes.
  • Experience with managing freight within a Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as we are on multiple calls, emails and direct messaging with senior leadership and operations teams; it is very important to be clear and understood.
  • Teamwork and Integrity: we want to make sure we work together and are transparent within our organization; if something is missed, it is called out and fixed in real time.
  • Reliability is critical to this role. This position is time intensive, and requires a dedicated person who can plan ahead and use time off wisely so workload is covered.
