What is a freelance learning and development professional?

A Freelance Learning and Development (L&D) professional is an independent contractor who designs, delivers, and evaluates training programs for organizations or individuals. They often create customized learning materials, conduct workshops, and assess training effectiveness to help clients achieve their professional development goals. Unlike in-house L&D specialists, freelancers work with multiple clients and may specialize in areas such as leadership training, e-learning, or instructional design. Their flexible approach allows organizations to access specialized expertise as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance learning and development professional?

To thrive as a Freelance Learning and Development Specialist, you need expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and curriculum development, often backed by a degree in education, HR, or a related field. Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools (such as Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and relevant certifications like CPLP or ATD are highly valuable. Outstanding communication, project management, and adaptability help you engage clients and learners while managing multiple projects independently. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering impactful learning experiences, meeting diverse client needs, and maintaining a successful freelance business.

What are some common challenges faced by freelance learning and development professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Freelance learning and development professionals often face challenges such as securing consistent projects, adapting to diverse organizational cultures, and staying current with industry trends. Building a strong professional network and maintaining an up-to-date portfolio can help in finding new clients. Additionally, proactively engaging in continuous learning and leveraging feedback from clients can ensure your skills remain relevant and competitive. Communication and adaptability are key to successfully collaborating with different stakeholders and delivering effective learning solutions.

Job description

Paid Media Marketing InternDescription

Want to learn what actually goes into launching paid media campaigns that capture attention and drive results?

LV Collective, an Austin-based student housing and multifamily developer, is seeking a curious, creative, and digitally savvy Paid Media Marketing Intern to join our marketing team.

This internship is designed for someone who wants real-world experience in paid media, digital advertising, and marketing analytics. You’ll get hands-on exposure to the process behind successful campaigns, from researching creative trends and developing content briefs to supporting creative execution, launching ads, digging into campaign data, and helping keep campaigns moving.

We’re not expecting you to walk in knowing how to do all of this. This is an opportunity to learn by doing, ask questions, explore new tools, and build both the creative and technical skills that go into modern performance marketing. What matters most is that you’re curious, resourceful, detail-oriented, and excited to learn.

You won’t just be watching from the sidelines. You’ll work alongside our marketing team, contribute to active campaigns, and learn how creative strategy, execution, analytics, and paid media come together to support LV Collective and its portfolio of brands.

The Perfect Fit

Essentially, the perfect fit for this job would be as follows:

  • You’re curious about what makes people stop scrolling, click, and take action.
  • You’re a self-starter who enjoys learning new platforms, tools, and strategies.
  • You pay attention to the details and can keep multiple projects moving at once.
  • You’re comfortable taking direction but aren’t afraid to take initiative.
  • You’re organized, dependable, and communicate well with a team.
  • You keep up with digital advertising, social media, and creative trends.
  • You’re not intimidated by data, dashboards, or troubleshooting. You’re willing to dig in, ask questions, and figure things out.
  • You have a serious case of GSD (Get Stuff Done).
