Job Description

Hstar is seeking a part time, consultant or freelance industrial designer to design medical robotic systems. Using a combination of both creative and industrial design skills, this position produces functional, effective, easy-to-use and aesthetically pleasing new products or existing product adaptations within a range of target costs. This design work plays a crucial role in increasing innovation across our entire product development, adding inherently high customer value through user experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Designing mobile robotic systems from concept stage;
- Providing technical drawings to engineering team for prototype making;
- Coordinating with engineering team to ensure hardware and design fits;
- Design innovative user interfaces or work alongside suppliers to achieve desired look;
- Work within budgets, timescales and project constraints.
- Lead and take part in multidisciplinary discussions and team meetings.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills designing for Manufacturing and Assembly
- Efficient communication skills including creation of product stories with 2D sketches
- Able to efficiently translate 2D ideas into cleanly surfaced 3D CAD (using the SolidWorks software)
- Able to generate CAD renderings to communicate designs and proposals for use in product development and marketing
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Have strong Graphic Design skills

Qualifications
Skills & Ability:                                
- Strong sketching and concept presentation skills
- The ability to effectively communicate clearly ideas/innovation with engineering and marketing. Must be willing to communicate design concepts openly and present your ideas.
- Demonstrate strong innovative and design thinking skills.
- 3D CAD surface modeling preferably in SolidWorks
- Able to balance multiple competing priorities and tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- A portfolio demonstrating you skills is required. Please provide your portfolio in PDF format or an online link. Candidates without a portfolio will not be considered.
Experience and Education:
- Associates Degree in Industrial or Engineering Design, Graphic/Creative Arts or related fields required. Bachelors degree preferred.
- 4+ years in an industrial design position. Minimum 2-years of direct work experience in an industrial design capacity.
- A strong understanding of production methods and materials; understanding of design technology a plus.
- Passion for designing innovative and clean consumer or medical products
