Finishing Operator - Hourly wage based on experience and working knowledge of folder gluers.

$2 per hour shift differential for night shift

JOB SUMMARY:

The finishing operator is responsible for the machine setup, adjustments, make-readies, assist with maintenance, troubleshooting quality issues, and operation of their assigned folding gluing machine.  While operating the machine, they are responsible for safely and efficiently manufacturing high quality folding cartons at or above target run speeds while minimizing waste and downtime.  The machine operator is the leader of the crew and oversees the activities of the feeder packers working on that machine.  The operator must obtain and review the job ticket for items, quantities, caliper of the paperboard, and any special instruction that is informational for running the order to specification.  The case specification must also be reviewed to make sure that the instructions are clear and concise prior to running the order.  The operator is responsible for ensuring all make-readies are put on as quickly as possible.  The operator inspects the product quality including folded score caliper, proper gluing and stacking, carton and score alignment, and case fit, and ensures that the machine is in good running condition.  The operator ensures that the Leary glue and mix detection system is constantly functioning correctly.  The operator is also responsible for shutting down the machine if it is to be left unattended.  This position reports to the Finishing Lead, Shift Supervisor and Finishing Manager.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Machine setup, adjustments and make-readies
  • Troubleshooting of machine and quality issues
  • Assist with maintenance, machine setups, etc.
  • Completion of required product and process audits
  • Exchange of information with shifts prior to/following work shift
  • Adherence to quality specifications
  • Identification of product/process enhancements to improve efficiencies, reduce downtime & spoilage
  • Production schedule output and timeframes
  • Effectively leading work crew to meet production goals
  • Attend team meetings
  • Must be able to differentiate colors
  • Train new team members to ensure job duties are performed efficiently and effectively
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Enforcing compliance with all company policies (Safety, GMP, etc.)
  • Perform other duties, as assigned 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • General math skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and quality issues

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Ability to stand/walk up to 12 hours per shift.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Visual Color Discrimination - the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of colors
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as within a team
