Job description

Flight Simulation Labs Level 2 IPT Leader

The Flight Simulation | Labs organization at The Boeing Company is currently seeking an M Level Flight Simulation Labs Level 2 IPT Leader to lead a team responsible for the Flight Simulation Labs scope on an Air Proprietary Program located in Berkeley, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization. The Flight Simulation | Labs organization provides a comprehensive simulation and laboratory solution for the design, development, integration and deployment of Boeing defense products.

The Flight Simulation Labs Level 2 IPT Leader will be responsible for the Boeing cross-functional leadership, tasking, ownership, and oversight of the technical execution of the design, development, testing, and delivery of complex Avionics Hardware/Software/System integration facilities and software simulation products in support of the program.In this role, the Manager will deploy to the Mission Systems IPT Leader and report to the Flight Simulation Labs Capability Leader.

The position will be responsible for a multi discipline team performing multiple engineering tasks including requirements development, hardware development, software development, verification testing, system analysis, simulation/SIL deployment and testing, and Iron Bird/Copper bird development and support. The engineering leader will be responsible for developing and executing project plans, acquiring resources for project development, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical oversight on team activities, leading process improvements, and employee development. The leader will also be responsible for cost, schedule, and risk management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages teams performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Software Engineering.
  • Coordinate cross-functional planning, scheduling, resourcing, and execution of lab test environment development (BT&E, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, Scheduling, Finance, etc.) in alignment with policies, processes, and procedures
  • Generate and present execution metrics / performance-to-plan predictive indicators including proactive risk mitigation and opportunity realization
  • Coordinate across IPTs within the program and in partnership with Air Dominance Advanced Development counterparts on topics related to test environment and labs.
  • Support periodic (weekly/monthly/quarterly) programmatic reviews
  • Responsible and accountable for control accounts within the organization performing execution
  • Perform risk, issue and opportunity management
  • IPT lead will manage the day-to-day execution and performance of IPTs including Deployed Functional IPT members (managers & individual contributors)
  • Provide experienced technical and programmatic leadership
  • Support trade study activities and new business proposal campaigns
  • Interface, communicate, present to senior leadership
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Responsible for Flight Simulation Labs scope in program operating rhythm to include recurring program performance and management reviews, program risk/issue/opportunity (RIO) process, and EVMS activities.
  • Responsible for adherence to budget and schedule of Flight Simulation Labs scope on the program
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
  • Responsible for lab compliance activities in accordance with AS9100 including cyber security, physical security, safety management, and configuration management
  • Responsible for lab readiness including coordinating scheduled and unscheduled lab maintenance
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Berkeley, MO.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

This position requires ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as an engineering manager
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience leading through influence and partnering with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives
  • Experience in Simulation and or Engineering Labs
  • Engineering leadership in development, production and product support lifecycle phases of a program
  • Experience with EVM, CAM, and RIO management
  • Ability to build positive relationships with senior leaders externally and internally and maintain a global perspective
  • Strong natural leadership style that moves people to act, motivates and inspires excellence and innovation
  • Strong history of developing and implementing strategies and delivering on commitments
  • Gains others' trust by demonstrating openness and honesty, behaving consistently, and acting in accordance with moral, ethical, professional, and organizational guidelines
