Job description

Position Overview

  • We are seeking a Hardware Engineer to join a development team supporting the delivery of a FAA Level D Full Flight Simulator for a customer.
  • The selected engineer will support hardware design and development across simulator power and control systems, motion platform integration, visual display systems, avionics interfaces, and related ancillary equipment.
  • The role will also support the end-to-end integration of simulator hardware with existing facility infrastructure and work closely with engineering, procurement, production planning, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure successful and timely program execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete hardware design and development activities for: Power and control systems, Motion platform integration, Visual display systems, Avionics interfaces, Ancillary equipment
  • Manage the end-to-end integration of new simulator hardware with existing building infrastructure, including: HVAC systems, Electrical distribution, Grounding, Fire and smoke monitoring systems
  • Lead and coordinate with other Hardware Engineers to synchronize engineering, procurement, production planning, manufacturing, and supplier activities.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex engineering problems while maintaining alignment with program objectives.
  • Develop and generate Creo layouts and detailed drawings for ICDs, components, subassemblies, assemblies, and integration test articles.
  • Develop hardware architectural layouts defining system-level and lower-level interfaces between systems and subsystems.
  • Derive hardware and sub-tier requirements from customer and system-level requirements.
  • Build BOMs and create parts, assemblies, and supporting design documentation.
  • Issue formal design-checking approvals and non-conformance reports through the PLM tool.
  • Support cross-functional teams through major technical reviews throughout the acquisition lifecycle, including: SRR – System Requirements Review, PDR – Preliminary Design Review, CDR – Critical Design Review, TRR – Test Readiness Review
  • Apply Hardware Engineering processes within an Agile development environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing flight simulation hardware solutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical design engineering principles and industry practices.
  • Experience developing and generating Creo layouts and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Experience with hardware architecture and system/subsystem interfaces.
  • Experience deriving hardware and sub-tier requirements from customer and system-level requirements.
  • Experience creating BOMs, parts, assemblies, and engineering design documentation.
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams through major technical reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR.
  • Experience applying Hardware Engineering processes in an Agile environment.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Windchill, Creo, CATIA, Zuken, and/or Cameo.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience performing complex system-level tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of developing hardware architecture, high-level interconnects, and deriving requirements from customer and system-level flow-downs.
  • Prior experience developing, integrating, and deploying flight training systems.
  • Experience applying Agile principles to the development of software-intensive systems and coordinating Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and Test Engineering work products.
  • Experience adapting hardware designs to existing climate control systems to maintain temperature and humidity stability for avionics and motion platforms.
  • Experience interfacing with existing fire detection and suppression infrastructure.
  • Product design experience within modular open systems architectures, such as SOA.
  • Experience with rotary-wing and/or fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Experience with full-motion flight simulators.
