Job description

This P-3 Flight Engineer Instructor position supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the area of Support Services. The mission-critical program provides comprehensive training, safety, standards, curriculum development, and technical modernization services to ensure national border security agents can operate safely and effectively.
The P-3 Orion is a complex, long-range patrol aircraft critical to border tracking. As a Flight Engineer Instructor, you ensure that the crews operating these aircraft have absolute mastery over fuel, propulsion, and emergency systems, ensuring they return home safely from every mission.
  • Location: Remote or Jacksonville, FL
  • Status: Full-Time / Contingent Upon Contract Award

Who You Are
You are an aviation operations professional with a deep, systemic understanding of the Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion. You are meticulous about safety protocols, detail-oriented, and take great pride in training the next generation of flight crews. You are as comfortable explaining complex electrical or hydraulic schematics in a classroom as you are demonstrating emergency checklists inside a high-fidelity simulator.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
  • Academic & Practical Instruction: Teach aircraft systems (Fuel, Hydraulics, Propulsion, Electrical, CRM) in classroom and flight simulator environments.
  • Evaluate Crew Competency: Objectively assess student proficiency in flight operations, weight and balance calculations, and emergency checklists.
  • Create Flight Scenarios: Program and direct realistic flight training scenarios in the P-3 Operational Flight Simulator (OFT).
  • Course Maintenance: Assist in developing and updating study guides, grading criteria, flight scenario logs, and academic exams.
  • Record Uploads: Create and maintain system quizzes and exams, grading and uploading completed quizzes and exams to the secure tracking and reporting portal.

What You Bring (Qualifications)
  • Experience: 3-5 years of recent experience as a P-3 Flight Engineer Instructor (must have taught within the last 2 years).
  • Certification: FAA Flight Engineer Certificate or military equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep, comprehensive knowledge of the P-3 Orion's engines, avionics, systems, and emergency operations.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background suitability check.

Why You'll Love Working with Team Carney (Benefits & Perks)
When you join our team, you enjoy a robust suite of benefits tailored to support your "whole self":
  • Comprehensive Health: Competitive medical, dental, and vision options (BCBS CareFirst), plus HSA and FSA.
  • Financial Protection: 401(k) with corporate match, and fully paid life and disability insurance.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Generous PTO, 11 paid federal holidays, and 6 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
  • Professional & Personal Growth: Up to $5,000 annually in tuition assistance or student loan repayment, plus $200/year "Get Out and Learn" and $200/year "Get Out and Run" micro-benefits.
