Job description

About Slash
Slash is building the future of business banking, one industry at a time.
We believe businesses deserve financial infrastructure tailored to how they actually operate, not generic banking products retrofitted with software. We're creating a new category of business banking that combines the reliability of traditional banking (high yields, competitive rewards, and uncompromising security) with industry-specific software, stablecoins, and AI-native workflows.
Our goal is simple: make businesses more efficient, more competitive, and more profitable.
Founded in 2021, Slash is one of the fastest-growing fintech companies in the world. We power billions in annual transaction volume across a wide range of industries - from internet-native founders to traditional operators. We've raised over $60M from leading investors including Menlo Ventures, NEA, Y Combinator, Goodwater Capital, Stanford University, and founders of companies like Tinder and Plaid.
Our team brings together fintech operators from Cash App, Brex, and Finix, alongside founders who have built and scaled their own businesses. We're headquartered in San Francisco (with another office in New York City) and operate with a strong in-person culture.
About the Role
We're hiring an Associate General Counsel to help build the legal foundation for Slash as we scale. You'll report to our General Counsel and work closely with the leadership team, including our two founders.
This is a broad, high-leverage role working across the company. You'll be involved anywhere legal intersects with the business: from shaping new products and helping us navigate an evolving regulatory landscape to reviewing commercial agreements and structuring partnerships.
You'll act as both a thought partner and an operator. The goal is not just to spot risk, but to help the company move forward with clarity and speed.
You will:
  • Advise on a wide range of legal matters across product, commercial, and regulatory
  • Support the development and launch of new financial products and features
  • Draft, review, and negotiate key agreements (partnerships, vendors, customers, and more)
  • Help structure and execute strategic relationships with banks, fintech partners, and infrastructure providers
  • Partner with compliance, risk, and operations teams to align on regulatory strategy
  • Build internal processes, templates, and frameworks that scale with the company
  • Identify areas of legal or regulatory risk and propose practical paths forward
  • Manage external counsel where needed

You're expected to be sharp, creative, and independent, to leverage automation and AI tools effectively, and to step in wherever support is needed.
Location: San Francisco or New York City
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of legal experience (law firm, in-house, and/or government)
  • Strong generalist skillset across commercial, regulatory, and/or product-related legal work
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, banking, or high-growth technology companies
  • Excellent judgment and ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
  • Clear and concise communication style
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and leadership
  • Very high ownership mindset

Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting expansion into new consumer products, capabilities, or regulatory frameworks
  • Familiarity with crypto, stablecoins, or AI
  • Prior experience at an early-stage or scaling startup
  • Experience building legal processes from scratch

You'll Thrive Here If
  • You like being a generalist and jumping across different problem areas
  • You're comfortable making decisions without perfect information
  • You move quickly and communicate clearly
  • You enjoy working closely with founders and operators
  • You want your work to directly shape how the company builds and scales

Benefits
  • Competitive base salary ($240K-$300K)
  • Equity in a high-growth company
  • Best-in-class health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Daily in-office meals
  • Transportation support
  • High-autonomy, low-bureaucracy environment
