Job description

Who are we hiring?

The Financial Analyst supports financial reporting & planning activities for the MSG Sports Teams. In partnership with the respective business leads, this role assists in the preparation of the annual budget and monthly Outlooks for certain team and business operations areas of the Sports business. The Financial Analyst assists in the preparation of various league reporting requirements for the NBA, NHL, AHL and G-League.

What will you do?

  • Assists in the compilation of detail for the annual budget in timely, detailed manner.
  • Prepare detailed analysis of monthly results and variance reporting to the business groups. Attend meetings to review and discuss the results and inform real time projections. Requires a deep and detailed understanding of the business through continual communication with department staff.
  • Assist Sports business staff to troubleshoot / navigate through finance or accounting questions, concerns, or system questions.
  • Assist in the completion of detailed forecasts and monthly outlooks.
  • Responsible to work closely with Teams Accounting to ensure accurate reporting of Revenues, Expenses and Balance Sheets Accounts for the teams.
  • Assist in completion of all NBA, NHL, G-League and AHL financial reporting packages and surveys.
  • Assist with special projects and financial analysis and modeling.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.

What do you need to succeed?ย 

  • At least 1 Year of experience and a Bachelor's degree required (in Finance / Accounting preferred), CPA a plus but not required
  • Must have advanced Excel skills while experience in Oracle and Hyperion applications is a plus.
  • Advanced analytical, accounting, and financial skills are required.
  • Experience in budgets, forecasts and monthly analysis reporting and monthly closes.
  • Must be able to work with various operating groups and assist the Accounting Department at month-end.
  • Communication Skills - must present themselves in a professional manner and communicate regularly with executives in multiple divisions as well as outside the company.
  • Demonstrated flexibility - must be able to juggle various projects and be willing to change projects as needed.
  • High Energy and Commitment - must display a positive, confident assertive personality and be able to work on projects until completion.
