Investment Analyst

FAS Product & Portfolio Strategy, is a vital component of Vanguard’s offer to our financial intermediary clients and prospects.  FAS has been one of the fastest growing centers of profitability for the Vanguard enterprise, and P&PS plays a key role in driving the agenda forward.

The P&PS team of Investment Analysts, Senior Investment Analysts, Portfolio Strategists, Product Strategists, and leaders is a critical part of the FAS mission to help advisors build better portfolios and improve outcomes for their clients. This Investment Analyst position offers a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Expand the depth and breadth of your investment acumen

  • Develop and refine client facing and relationship management skills

  • Apply financial software and analytical expertise

  • Collaborate on projects across departments and divisions

  • Play a direct role in driving investor and business outcomes by guiding financial advisors towards making the best investment decisions for their clients

  • Hone analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills across a wide array of Vanguard product and capital market topics.

The Investment Analyst position offers a great introduction into a client facing group of investment experts. Analysts have the opportunity to dive deep on investment topics as well as to develop their expertise on Vanguard’s product lineup. Analysts regularly collaborate with Portfolio Strategists, Product Strategists, FAS Sales Executives, and business partners across the enterprise. A strong applicant will exhibit a mix of the following:

  • Focus on an investment track with a demonstrated interest in professional development

  • The ability and desire to thrive in an ambiguous, fast paced environment with multiple priorities

  • Interest/experience in interacting with sophisticated investment professional clients

  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills

  • Strong intellectual curiosity with the desire to drive continual self-development

  • Familiarity with, or the eagerness to develop, financial software skills (Morningstar, FactSet, Bloomberg)

Responsibilities:

  • Researches client inquiries and provides internal partners and clients with investment analyses and product insights.

  • Develops supporting documentation used to communicate findings and recommendations.

  • Fields investment-related questions and requests from the FAS Sales teams.

  • Conducts client needs assessments and aligns internal resources to address client objective.

  • Supports and partners with Strategists on investment-related client material preparation, internal sales team training, and other projects.

  • Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of capital markets, asset management, and the financial advisory industry, as well as a deep awareness of competitors and the performance of Vanguard and non-Vanguard funds.

  • Serves as a department resource for both internal and external data systems including ViFi, Morningstar Direct, FactSet, and others. This includes the maintenance and enhancement of associated spreadsheets and proprietary tools linked to these resources.

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with business partners and vendors.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two years experience in the Financial Services industry or client services preferred.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Progress towards CFA or CFP preferred.

  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 or ability to acquire within department guidelines

  • This job requires a regulatory license and/or registration (e.g. FINRA, state, SFC). These will be determined by Compliance based on role-specific duties.
