Openings available for Field Service Engineering Specialist Professional at Hitachi Energy USA Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina: Perform hands-on testing and commissioning of medium and high voltage P&C systems and schemes, including IEC 61850, commissioning communication systems such as IEC 61850 Ed.2, DNP3.0, Modbus RTU and PROCOME Protocols. Lead medium and high voltage substation protection and control (P&C) system and equipment testing and commissioning projects of varying complexity, both greenfield and brownfield. Coordinate with various alliances, vendors and teams involved in MTP control and SCADA system engineering and development. Review all engineering design documents and develop an understanding of overall system operation including architecture drawings, equipment data sheets, and panel drawings. Read, interpret, troubleshoot, and effectively utilize electrical drawings and schematics during the testing and commissioning process to meet the design intent. Establish project Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program and ensure compliance with its provisions. Perform complex engineering activities, conduct related analyses, and provide technical advice to customers and less experienced field engineers. Visit multiple jobsites to ensure proper installation and operation of specialized equipment and to devise solutions to problems. Establish schedules and procedures in conjunction with manager and customers. Inform other groups, such as Business Development, of potential opportunities for new business. Represent the company in conferences with customer's operating management and other personnel, consulting engineers, contractors, and vendors. Provide technical advice involving complex problems and follow up to facilitate resolution. Maintain communications with engineering design groups regarding such issues as design improvements and resolution of highly complex problems. Propose to customers, ways to optimize their operations while concurrently increasing the company's business. Consult with vendor's field representatives to develop and implement corrective measures involving vendor supplied equipment. Provide technical expertise, direction, and guidance to less experienced engineers in various aspects of field service assignments.
Requires a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in energy engineering, electrical engineering, power engineering, or a related field and 5 years of experience configuring and testing distance protection, RTU configuration and testing, and SEL RTAC. Must have 5 years of experience in each of the following: configuring and testing protection schemes, including 61850 Protocol; using, testing, and maintaining network design tools, including GE, Siemens, and Schneider; using and testing Goose, DNP3, ModBus, and Cyber Security protocols; using test gear including Omicron and Doble Test sets; configuring and testing practical POWER distribution; and, performing project management and risk management. In lieu of a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in the aforementioned fields and 5 years of experience as stated, employer will accept 2 additional years of experience. Position reports to Raleigh, NC office. Telecommuting permitted in accordance with company policy but must live within commuting distance of stated office. Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently.
