This position reports to:
Field Service Manager
Field Service Engineer, Propulsion (Miramar, FL)
Field Service Engineer, Propulsion positions offered by ABB Inc. (Miramar, FL).
Perform and coordinate complex and diverse engineering activities associated with field projects related to Azipod propulsion technology. Interpret technical drawings and schematics while making necessary changes in the field to reflect work carried out on site. Increase product and technical knowledge of Azipod propulsion technology through factory or third-party training, technical manuals, and conventional or non-conventional resources. Troubleshoot and repair Azipod propulsion technology equipment, applying personal knowledge and experience. Provide technical advice to customers on-site and remotely utilizing specialized knowledge of all aspects of Azipod propulsion technology. Collaborate with project managers to coordinate site activity. Provide leadership in the assembly and operation of lab and field service equipment. Record, compile, and reduce data for analysis and assists in the subsequent assessment and reporting. Plan, analyze, and report of projects ranging in complexity from simple to advanced. Utilize ABB specific knowledge of Azipod propulsion technology and the tasks related to it, such as shaft pullout tools to extract rotors onsite, shaft seal bonding tools, boroscoping for monitoring the condition of different types of bearings, and 3D scanning to perform reverse engineering.
  • Requires 2 years of experience working in the marine service industry.

  • Must also have 2 years of experience in each of the following:
    • Providing maintenance or installation services in a hydraulics or mechanical setting;
    • Communicating with customers, factories and internal departments;
    • Interpreting technical drawings and schematics;
    • Repairing propulsion technology equipment;
    • Providing maintenance on hydraulic steering systems and electrical steering systems;
    • Performing field winding repair for electrical motors;
    • Supervising dry-docking teams on shaft line works and slewing bearing works; and
    • Performing borescope inspections for shaft line bearings and slewing bearings.

  • Position reports to Miramar, FL office. Telecommuting permitted in accordance with company policy, but must live within commuting distance of stated office.

  • Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently.
