Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:                    

Primarily responsible for supervising catch operations, and scheduling drivers and loads to meet production schedules.  Also responsible for managing truck shop operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:                        

  • Act as liaison between Wayne Farms and contracted catching crew laborers.
  • Assist with preparation of daily catch and plant receiving schedules.
  • Coordinate and communicate schedules to drivers and contractors.
  • Project weight of product on farms.
  • Supervise truck drivers, weigh masters and truck shop personnel.
  • Compile, balance and submit daily and weekly reports to Accounting.
  • Communicate feed withdrawal and catch times to producers and crew catchers.
  • Supervise and monitor time and attendenance of personnel.
  • Maintain fuel inventory and holding shed maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to safety program, as well as DOT and D7I complainace.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with employees and customers.
  • Supervise and participate in employee development, and administer disciplinary action.
  • Oversee and monitor sanitation and disinfection of breeder houses.
  • Ensure all USDA and animal welfare guidelines are enforced and adhered to.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct supervision of 6 - 10 hourly contracted employees.
  • This is a Leader of People position with required competencies:  Strategic Agility, Business Acumen, Building Effective Teams, Customer Focus and Command Skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND minimum 2 years' live poultry experience within a similar environment OR Associate's Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field from an accredited institution.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Poultry or veterinary assistant experience.
  • CDL license

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Solid foundational poultry science knowledge.
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • High work capacity, dependable, results oriented and strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of math functions and skills.
  • Solid organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.

REQUIRED PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:

  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritize work accordingly.
  • Ability to understand and interpret data while drawing logical conclusions based on available inputs.
  • Critical thinking skills in standardized situations as well as non-routine problems.
  • Basic reasoning skills and carries out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
