Schwartz Farms, Inc. was founded in 1978 and at the time was predominantly involved in crop farming. Although Schwartz Farms is still involved in farming, today's primary operations are within the pork industry. Schwartz Farms, Inc. employs over 550 full-time individuals, and owns sows in the upper Midwest, predominantly in Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

As a High School Part-Time Animal Care Specialist at Schwartz Farms, Inc., you can expect an engaging and fulfilling day-to-day experience! The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for providing support to breeding, farrowing or wean-finish teams. We know that schoolwork, sports, and other activities can be overwhelming. With the help of our managers, you will work together to come up with a schedule that will work for you!

This position is designed around our high school students who are eager to learn more about the opportunities that Schwartz Farms Inc. and the swine industry has to offer!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tasks are dependent upon the department, but may include:

  • Provide care for animals, ensuring they have access to food, water and a comfortable environment
  • Assist with movement of animals
  • Assist with treating and vaccinating animals
  • Maintain accurate documentation
  • Assist with processing of animals
  • Promote a safe work environment
  • Maintain PQA certification status (provided on the job)
  • Follow all SFI bio-security policies and procedures
  • Exhibit strong teamwork, including working to achieve team goals, embracing new technologies, working on new projects, etc.

Additional Duties:

  • Demonstrate Schwartz Farms' values of Humility, Care, Integrity, Discipline and Excellence.
  • Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse
  • Additional duties may be assigned as they arise
