Job type: Full Time – Exempt

Location: Tualatin Oregon

Title: Quality Engineer

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Salary range: $90K to $100K per year

Under limited supervision, assist the Quality Assurance Manager in assuring execution and maintenance of the Quality Management System at Shields Manufacturing with regards to process management and measurement, corrective and preventive actions, failure analysis, internal audits as well as customer and supplier communication and data submittals. Additionally the quality engineer will provide inputs and coaching to continually improve the understanding and adherence to quality assurance disciplines across company.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential Duties:

  • Assist Quality Manager in defining and implementing process and product based measurement tools to report and continually improve processes and products, including statistical process control applications. The quality engineer will be involved in the complete life-cycle of quality performance metrics, including:
    • metrics development
    • metrics compilation
    • metrics assimilation
  • Define and deliver responses to customer requests and inquiries related to product quality
    • Failure Analysis (including FMEA as required)
    • Root Cause Corrective Action Plans
    • First Article Inspection Planning / Issues
    • Supplier Scorecard Inputs (via Customer on-line portals)
  • Coordinate activities with Inspection to review all non-conformance documents to insure:
    • Proper definition of non-conformances
    • Appropriate assignment of corrective / preventive actions
    • Completion of corrective / preventive actions
  • Facilitate meetings and team activities focused on corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Assist Quality Manager in reviewing emerging requirements from customers to determine appropriate changes to existing Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Assist Quality Manager in defining and executing internal audits to insure compliance to QMS.
  • Assist Quality Manager in activities related to external customer or external audit agency visits to Shields Manufacturing.
  • Assist Quality Manager in reviewing, writing, publishing procedures and work instructions related to the QMS.

Education/Qualifications:

  • BS in an Engineering or Scientific discipline, or related field, is preferred. Equivalent relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience serving as a quality engineer in a production environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing detailed root cause analysis and defining and executing corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Demonstrated skills identifying, measuring and managing product and process Key Characteristics.
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing for and conducting quality audits, communicating results and working with functional and/or program personnel to resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated skills to lead project teams in process improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office toolset (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) including advanced application of MS Excel skills (pivot tables, logic functions, vlookup) for providing performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service elements including customer needs assessment, quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to demonstrate attention to detail in completing assignments and in communicating to internal and external representatives.

Work Setting

  • A combination of general office setting, with typical moderate noise levels in a temperature controlled environment, and a production shop environment with machining and assembly operations.
