Primary Purpose of the Organization:
Fayetteville State University (FSU), Broadwell College of Business and Economics is hiring CDL drivers to join our team. The CDL bus driver will be responsible for transporting large groups of faculty/staff/students to and from approved events, following a pre-planned route and time schedule.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The working hours for the position is dependent on university travel needs. Occasional evening and/or weekend assignments may be required.
Responsibilities:
  • Transports faculty/staff/students to and from approved events. While operating a 16 - 30 passenger bus, in a safe manner and in full compliance with all FSU traffic regulations and department policies. These locations may be within the same city or different cities. Trips may be field trips or labs to extend the academic experience, sporting events, or other extracurricular activities.
  • Work hours may vary to early mornings, late evenings, or weekends and may require out-of-state travel and overnight stays.
  • Picking up and delivering material for Operations & Maintenance shops. Lifting may be required.
  • Delivering and picking up vehicles for service.
  • Maintain a customer-oriented environment by demonstrating courtesy, respect, and tact with passengers, coworkers, and others.
  • Create and maintain appropriate mileage logs, time sheets and trip expense reports associated with vans, box trucks and buses.
  • Accurately record incident and accident reports according to Fayetteville State University transportation guidelines.
  • Perform pre-operational checks and safety inspections of large cargo carrying and passenger vehicles and maintain assigned bus condition.
  • Oversee the loading/unloading of passengers.
  • Notify the supervisor while in transit of any delays on a scheduled route due to traffic, weather, or other conditions/circumstances.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.
  • Responsible for refueling the vehicle after assignments.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
  • Must have a valid North Carolina CDL, Class A/B with passenger endorsement, no restrictions, and air brakes.
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Drivers must complete a performance test in bus operation.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, safety procedures, vehicle mechanics, route/areas, passenger management, and first aid.
  • Well-trained. He/she should be a skilled driver and must hold a CDL A/B operating license with passenger endorsement
  • Must be able to drive for a long period of time and possess a strong sense of direction.
  • Possess effective communication, leadership and team play skills, as well as the ability to adhere to instructions.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and rules of the road.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 or more years' experience in operation of large passenger and cargo vehicles.
