Job description

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to support a fully remote organization on a Contract basis through the end of August. This role will lead accurate, timely payroll operations for a large employee population across multiple states while providing day-to-day guidance to a payroll associate. Based in Washington, District of Columbia, the position requires strong knowledge of Dayforce, payroll tax compliance, and end-to-end payroll administration for both salaried and hourly employees.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the complete payroll cycle for more than 800 employees, ensuring each pay run is processed accurately and on schedule.

• Manage bi-monthly payroll activities for both exempt and non-exempt staff, applying appropriate earnings, deductions, and adjustments.

• Oversee multi-state payroll administration for a fully remote workforce and maintain compliance with varying state and local requirements.

• Use Dayforce to process payroll transactions, review results, and open support cases to resolve system or payroll-related issues.

• Supervise and support a payroll associate by assigning work, reviewing output, and helping maintain high service standards.

• Monitor payroll tax calculations, filings, and related compliance activities to reduce risk and address discrepancies promptly.

• Investigate payroll questions and exceptions, working across teams to resolve issues efficiently and improve accuracy.

• Maintain payroll records, reports, and controls to support audits, reconciliations, and ongoing operational effectiveness.

• Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll in a high-volume environment.

• Hands-on expertise with Dayforce, including troubleshooting and submitting cases for payroll issue resolution.

• Strong background in processing multi-state payroll for remote or geographically dispersed employee populations.

• Experience overseeing payroll operations for organizations with more than 800 employees.

• Prior leadership experience with responsibility for guiding or supervising payroll team members.

• Solid understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

• Proven ability to process bi-monthly payroll for both salaried and hourly employees with a high degree of accuracy.
