Job description

The diagnostic Radiologic Technologist successfully acquires quality radiographs and performs fluoroscopy guidance for diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic purposes, using the expertise and knowledge of radiologic technology and radiographic equipment and positioning. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Graduate from an approved Radiologic Technology education program.
  • ARRT required.
  • New York State license in Radiologic Technology is required.
    • New graduates will receive a temporary permit that is valid for 6 months or until they successfully pass the ARRT Radiology boards.
    • If a new graduate fails to pass the ARRT Radiology board, they will have 10 days to work, at which time their temporary permit will be rescinded. They will not be able to work as a Radiologic Technologist until successful completion of passing the ARRT Radiology boards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Technical requirements:

  • Must be able to problem-solve and troubleshoot issues independently or go through the proper channels to follow through, so the task is complete.
  • Must be able to and willing to work independently in all areas of the diagnostic radiology department, particularly in the operating room, with portable X-ray equipment, and with c-arm equipment.
  • Must be willing to perform medical assistant duties as necessary depending on location of employment.
  • Must be competent and willing to participate in all OR procedures and capable of doing them independently.
  • Must be capable of operating all radiographic rooms and all equipment including the fluoroscopy, portables, c-arms and diagnostic radiographic equipment.
  • Track, scan, verify studies and complete all required paperwork associated with such.
  • Monitor PACS for Problem Studies and Call Reports as a measure of default when a dedicated person is unable.
  • Document on requisition appropriate needed information such as time of exam, how many images, clinical info, room of exam and initials of staff participating in the exam.
  • Prep the patient for a diagnostic imaging exam.
  • Read doctor's notes as to why the exam is being performed.
  • Take histories.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient.
  • Correct Positioning of patients.
  • Prepare solutions for patients to drink. Barium, contrast agents.
  • Utilize shielding as necessary for patient and staff.

Departmental and Institutional Requirements:

  • Must keep up to date on department and hospital policies, department protocols, radiographic study protocols, and hospital work rules. 
  • Must be able to and willing to rotate out of scheduled room assignments and possibly shift assignments for the greater good of the department. Must be willing to participate in shift rotation and have flexibility to work weekends when scheduled or needed or change of shift when needed. Must be able to and abide by the mandate list. Must be able and willing to rotate through other campuses as required or needed.
  • Must abide by the Ellis Medicine Behaviors and Standards.
  • Must abide by all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Must not sleep while on the clock or during the shift.  You must clean and stock the department during downtime.
  • Per Diem, we must follow per diem policies of the required holiday per year in the cost center and must maintain 16 hours /month in each department intended to work in. Per Diem must follow and abide by all other policies in the department and institution of Ellis Medicine. 
  • All technologists must be a role model for the department of radiology, mentoring and teaching radiologic technology students from affiliated x-ray programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.  Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.  Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

Salary Range: $33.71-$50.56/hour                   Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
