Who We're Looking For
Our client is seeking a VP of Software Development to lead the strategic direction, velocity, and quality of their software development organization. This leader will oversee engineering and product leadership while ensuring the development department operates with strong accountability, structured sprint execution, and clear delivery targets.
The VP of Software Development will drive the organization's AI adoption strategy, product delivery processes, and development standards, while working cross-functionally with leadership to align software initiatives with broader business goals. This role requires a leader who can combine technical expertise, operational discipline, and strategic planning to ensure development teams consistently deliver high-quality software that meets both operational and compliance standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Accountability
  • Lead and mentor the Director of Engineering and Director of Product, holding teams accountable to company standards, sprint commitments, and delivery targets. Establish a high-velocity, AI-forward, quality-driven culture, provide coaching to leadership and team members, ensure adherence to development processes and release protocols, assess capacity and resource needs, lead key meetings, and drive departmental initiatives to completion.

Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous learning, evaluate emerging technologies for potential inclusion in product and platform strategy, and document AI workflows, standards, and governance practices.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Strategic Planning
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define realistic delivery timelines and technical approaches for company initiatives, optimize resource allocation, and guide both short-term and long-term software projects. Serve as the primary technology partner for Operations, Sales, and Client Services, translate business needs into clear technical requirements, ensure timely bug resolution, maintain a rolling five-year software strategy, review third-party integrations for security and compliance, and maximize team efficiency and output.

Software Development, Sprint Execution & Systems Architecture
  • Oversee sprint planning, execution, and retrospectives while maintaining roadmap documentation for all software platforms. Drive accountability for ticket completion, velocity, and release commitments, allocate resources across initiatives, collaborate with Product leadership to prioritize backlog items, maintain development standards and QA integration, guide design and implementation of new features, support developers in best practices for bug fixes and enhancements, and research emerging technologies for future adoption.

Compliance & Security Alignment
  • Ensure all development activities comply with SOC 2 and HIPAA standards, integrating compliance checkpoints into sprints and release processes. Enforce secure coding practices and data-handling policies, require compliance certification before release submissions, lead remediation efforts for any compliance issues, and escalate disputes when necessary.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven ability to lead engineering and product teams with high velocity and clear accountability
  • Deep experience with modern software development methodologies including Agile and Scrum
  • Demonstrated experience adopting AI tools within development workflows
  • Strong technical foundation in software architecture, APIs, and platform development
  • Experience managing cross-functional product delivery across multiple platforms
