POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Marketing & Media reports directly to the Chief Marketing Officer and serves as a strategic leader and key member of the senior leadership team. This role is responsible for driving the development and execution of integrated marketing, media, and brand strategies that advance the mission, vision, and business objectives of New York City Tourism + Conventions.


Working closely with the CMO and senior leadership, the Vice President of Marketing & Media will translate organizational priorities into actionable marketing initiatives, oversee critical department-wide programs, and ensure alignment across marketing functions. The individual will serve as a strategic advisor to the CMO, providing insights, recommendations, and leadership on key initiatives while ensuring effective execution of departmental goals.


The Vice President of Marketing & Media will lead strategic planning efforts and drive collaboration among internal teams, external partners, agencies, and stakeholders. This role will provide leadership across media strategy, campaign and concept development and performance measurement to maximize the impact of our Marketing programs and initiatives.


Additionally, this position will oversee the operational effectiveness of the Marketing department, including budget management, project prioritization, agency relationships and implementation of new ideas that keep our efforts at the industry forefront.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and media strategies that support NYC Tourism’s mission, brand objectives, and organizational priorities.
  • Partner with the Chief Marketing Officer to establish strategic marketing priorities, identify growth opportunities, and drive execution of key initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Marketing & Media Department budgets, including forecasting, resource allocation, agency spend, reconciliations, and ongoing financial management.
  • Mentor and support team members while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Lead and manage the Marketing & Media team, providing day to day guidance to keep priorities on track and maintain high-quality execution across the department.
  • Drive integrated collaboration across disciplines, including marketing, media, creative, research & analytics, global communications, digital, partnerships, and external agencies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, agency partners, media organizations, and external partners to maximize marketing impact.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the CMO and senior marketing leaders on campaign performance, operational efficiencies, market opportunities, and emerging trends.
  • Prepare and present executive-level presentations, reports, strategic updates, and materials for senior leadership meetings as needed alongside the CMO
  • Establish processes and frameworks to improve departmental effectiveness, accountability, communication, and alignment across teams.
  • Monitor marketing performance metrics and provide insights to optimize campaigns, audience engagement, and return on investment.
  • Own the Marketing & Media division strategy and goals, operating with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring Managers/Directors execute against goals.
  • Serving as a trusted representative of the department and organization in high-level meetings, decisions, and external partner/vendor engagements.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing, media, and/or consumer promotions
  • Agency-side experience is a plus
  • Previous experience working closely with C-suite executives or senior leadership teams required
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing integrated marketing and media strategies.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong executive presence, with the credibility and polish to represent the organization confidently with senior leadership, board members, and external partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex strategies and ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize information, identify opportunities, and drive informed decision-making.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate independently with sound judgment, strong business acumen, and exceptional discretion.
  • Proven track record owning high-impact operations such as budget management, vendor/agency relationships, and critical departmental workflows.
  • Skilled at managing up, proven strategic input that shapes decision-making and guides the organizational strategy at the senior leadership level.

  • Hybrid Schedule: 3 days in-office (Tues/Wed required + 1 flex day); Fridays remote.
