Job description

Responsibilities
Peraton's Risk Decision Group is seeking a Director of Cloud Engineering to architect, build, and lead our cloud organization from the ground up. This leader will define cloud strategy, manage multi-cloud environments, oversee AI integration, and drive the migration of legacy on-premise systems into Azure and AWS. The role requires significant expertise in Azure, strong AWS experience, cloud database management, cloud cyber-security design, and compliance with FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, and CMMC. The Director will build and manage a blended team of full-time employees (FTEs) and contractors and lead the design, development, implementation, and operations of secure cloud platforms and services.
This is a 100% Remote position.
Responsibilities:
  • Build, lead, and manage a blended cloud engineering organization consisting of full-time employees and contractors.
  • Design, develop, and implement cloud-based solutions, including cloud architectures, plans, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to develop specifications for cloud-based products, services, applications, and solutions.
  • Drive the rollout, performance evaluation, and continuous enhancement of cloud management platforms.
  • Develop and expand the portfolio of cloud services and value-added offerings.
  • Create solution recommendations for cloud services.
  • Evaluate cost-benefit tradeoffs between cloud, virtual private networks, dedicated hosting, and on-premise solutions; identify high ROI opportunities for cloud deployment.
  • Lead hybrid-cloud integrations connecting Azure and AWS to legacy and on-premise environments.
  • Guide large-scale migrations of legacy on-premise applications, systems, and databases to Azure and AWS cloud solutions.
  • Oversee cloud database architecture, modernization, performance management, and security across relational and NoSQL platforms.
  • Architect cloud cyber-security designs aligned with zero trust, defense-in-depth, and compliance frameworks.
  • Lead and support FedRAMP readiness and accreditation for cloud workloads.
  • Ensure compliance with NIST 800-171, CMMC, and other cybersecurity governance frameworks.
  • Perform operations and maintenance of secure cloud platforms, ensuring reliability, availability, and resilience.
  • Implement and maintain automation for operations, alerting, monitoring, and event auto-remediation.
  • Lead the integration of AI and machine-learning capabilities into cloud platforms using Azure AI and cloud-native tools.
  • Manage AWS as a secondary multi-cloud environment for interoperability and resilience.
  • Implement cloud governance, FinOps, security best practices, and operational excellence.
  • Communicate strategy, roadmaps, status, and risk to executive leaders and stakeholders.

Qualifications
Required:
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance; active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.
  • 16+ years in IT, cloud engineering, cloud architecture, or IT infrastructure leadership.
  • Extensive hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure (architecture, networking, identity, security, automation).
  • Strong experience with AWS architectures and services.
  • Proven success building and managing teams of FTEs and contractors.
  • Strong background designing and implementing cloud solutions and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience developing cloud platform specifications and launching new cloud-based services.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid-cloud integrations and large-scale cloud migrations.
  • Expertise in cloud database design, modernization, performance tuning, and security.
  • Strong cloud cyber-security design experience, including encryption, identity management, network segmentation, and threat detection.
  • Experience with FedRAMP accreditation processes and operational compliance with NIST 800-171 and CMMC.
  • Experience implementing AI/ML solutions using cloud-native AI services.
  • Proficiency with automation, monitoring, auto-remediation, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, including executive-level engagement.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
