The COO partners closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Regional Vice President (RVP) of Operations, and the USSM team to ensure operational continuity, proactively address challenges, and align day-to-day operations with organizational strategy. In addition, the COO develops and implements policies and processes that reinforce the organization’s culture, vision, and long-term growth. The ideal candidate is a seasoned healthcare executive with strong business acumen, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams in dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO, CFO, RVP of Operations, and USSM leadership to establish and execute organizational vision, operational strategy, and growth objectives.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable business plans, policies, and procedures that drive performance, scalability, and sustainable growth.
  • Provide executive oversight of daily operations across all functions, with a focus on operational excellence, patient experience, and financial performance.
  • Lead, coach, and develop leaders and managers at all levels by setting clear expectations, holding teams accountable for results, and providing ongoing performance feedback and direction.
  • Establish and sustain a strong performance management culture by ensuring leaders effectively manage their teams, address performance issues promptly, and build high-performing, engaged teams.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, develop, and retain talent at all levels, with a strong emphasis on leadership development, succession planning, and manager effectiveness.
  • Champion organizational culture, values, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Identify operational opportunities to improve care delivery, enhance efficiency, and support the development of new service lines or revenue streams.
  • Lead and support due diligence, operational integration, and optimization efforts related to new partnerships, acquisitions, and growth initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying, analyzing, and implementing best-in-class operational processes, controls, and performance metrics.
  • Oversee the implementation and optimization of technology solutions, including EHR systems, telehealth platforms, call center automation, and analytics tools.
  • Establish and monitor enterprise risk management practices, including compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and controlled substance oversight.
  • Optimize organizational performance through data analysis and interpretation; provide regular insights and recommendations to the CEO and RVP of Operations.
  • Manage operating expenses and capital investments to meet investor expectations for growth, profitability, and EBITDA performance.
  • Align and optimize operations across existing locations to ensure consistency, efficiency, and high-quality patient care.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates to the CEO regarding operational performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated success in senior operational leadership roles (e.g., Chief Operating Officer, Divisional President, or General Manager) within both growth-stage and established organizations.
  • Unquestioned ethics, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Extensive experience leading multi-site, for-profit healthcare services organizations.
  • Proven ability to integrate operations and scale organizations to drive efficiency, optimization, and EBITDA growth.
  • Strong data-driven leadership skills, including the ability to establish accountability through performance metrics, dashboards, and operational reporting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, operational execution, and business development.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and decision-making capabilities, with a strong customer and patient-centric mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience partnering with private equity sponsors and managing board-level relationships.
  • Cultural awareness and adaptability, with the ability to lead diverse teams in complex, multi-market environments.
  • Working knowledge of IT and business infrastructure, including enterprise systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, and local healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Prior experience working with a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience, including at least five (5) years in executive-level leadership roles.

  • Experience leading within large, complex, highly matrixed organizations with cross-functional professional teams.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with executive and senior-level leadership teams.
