About the Role

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association representing the dietary supplement and functional food industry, is seeking an experienced and strategic attorney to join its leadership team as Associate General Counsel.

This role provides legal and regulatory counsel to the association, supports advocacy efforts before federal agencies and policymakers, advises member companies on regulatory compliance, and oversees a broad range of corporate legal matters. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the organization and with industry leaders to advance policies that support innovation and consumer access to safe, effective dietary supplements and functional foods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on federal regulatory, legislative, and policy issues affecting the dietary supplement and functional food industries.
  • Develop legal strategies and draft comments on proposed FDA, FTC, and other agency regulations.
  • Advise CRN members on regulatory compliance, legal developments, and policy initiatives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, leases, consulting agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Counsel leadership on nonprofit governance, corporate compliance, privacy, employment, antitrust, and other business matters.
  • Manage outside legal counsel and consultants as needed.
  • Serve as staff liaison to CRN's Legal Committee.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with federal regulators, industry partners, and allied organizations.
  • Represent CRN at industry conferences, meetings, and public events.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (District of Columbia preferred).
  • 5 yrs experience practicing law in a relevant field: inhouse with a food/dietary supplement company; FDA-related practice in a law firm; trade association, or government agency covering supplements/food.
  • Strong knowledge of federal regulatory agencies, including FDA and FTC; familiarity with USDA and international regulatory frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience with contracts, nonprofit governance, corporate compliance, and general business law.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Why Join CRN?

This is a unique opportunity to influence national policy, work alongside industry leaders, and help shape the future of the dietary supplement and functional food industry while serving an organization dedicated to science-based advocacy and regulatory excellence.
