Job description

Job Summary/Company: Sparks Group is seeking applicants for a Legal Counsel role on contract basis to serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, department heads, and staff. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team, influence organizational decision-making, and play a key role in supporting our global initiatives—including one of the most influential tech events in the world. Ideal candidate would be an experienced attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and enjoys balancing strategic legal counsel with practical, business-minded solutions. Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic legal advice aligned with organizational goals.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, letters of intent, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Support business teams in sales contract negotiations and manage contract review and storage.
  • Oversee standard contract clauses and templates, ensuring compliance and consistency.
  • Advise on corporate, intellectual property, antitrust, employment, and compliance matters.
  • Manage outside counsel on trademark, IP, and litigation-related issues.
  • Support programming and production of our flagship tradeshow, CES, including exhibitor IP complaints, contest rules, and code of conduct investigations.
  • Assist HR on policies, hiring, terminations, and compliance.
  • Provide litigation support, including discovery, subpoenas, and dispute resolution.
  • Deliver internal legal training and maintain corporate filings.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to anticipate risks and identify opportunities.

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • Experience: 5–7 years of professional legal experience, including at least 3+ years in-house or in a trade association preferred.
  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) required; active bar membership (VA, DC, or MD preferred).
  • Background: Corporate/contracts, antitrust, intellectual property, and/or employment law experience preferred.
  • Excellent legal research, analysis, and drafting skills.
  • Strong communicator—clear, concise writing and effective public speaking.
  • Business-minded, solution-oriented, and able to juggle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative and able to partner effectively across the organization.
