Events Executives often juggle several events at once, which can present challenges like managing overlapping timelines, allocating resources efficiently, and ensuring clear communication among vendors and team members. Staying organized with detailed schedules and checklists is essential, as is the ability to adapt quickly to last-minute changes or unforeseen issues. Proactively collaborating with stakeholders and maintaining strong vendor relationships also helps in resolving conflicts and delivering successful events.

Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills help you manage clients, vendors, and teams effectively. These abilities are crucial for delivering seamless events that meet client objectives and ensure participant satisfaction.

Job description

Events Sales Executive

Main Street United | Remote (Greater Cincinnati residency preferred) | Full-Time, 1099 Independent Contractor

About the Role

Main Street United, the regional media and events company behind Cincy Magazine, NKY Magazine, Dayton Magazine, and Ohio Business Magazine, is hiring an Events Account Executive to drive new business sales across our full portfolio of live events and forums.

This is a growth seat — you'll be building vendor and sponsor relationships across an expanding footprint of high-visibility regional events, with the opportunity to grow your book of business as our events lineup grows.

What You'll Sell

You'll represent the full events portfolio, selling both vendor and sponsor packages, including:

  • Good Life Expo — health, wellness & longevity consumer expo (Delta Hotels Marriott Sharonville)
  • Make Forward Midwest — regional professional services & defense contracting conference (Butler Tech, Hamilton)
  • Emergent Defense Forums — defense industry and Wright-Patterson ecosystem events
  • Dayton Home+Design Show
  • Other events and properties as our portfolio grows

What You'll Do

  • Drive new business sales — identifying and closing new vendor and sponsor partners across all event properties
  • Build and manage a pipeline using our CRM
  • Represent Main Street United's brands (Cincy Magazine, NKY Magazine) as a credibility platform for event sales conversations
  • Work primarily within the Greater Cincinnati region and Southwest Ohio
  • Remote role — set your own schedule and structure your day, with Greater Cincinnati residency preferred
  • Meet a minimum daily outbound activity requirement, tracked through phone system and CRM
  • Comfortable meeting prospects and clients in person at their business locations throughout the region (mileage/travel factored into compensation)
  • Attend events where you have vendors and sponsors, serving as their on-site customer service contact
  • Attend the weekly sales meeting and your one-on-one with the sales manager via Microsoft Teams

Compensation

  • Draw: $1,800/month for your first two months while you ramp
  • Clawback: Starting month 3, up to $900/month may be recovered against commissions earned
  • Commission: Paid on cash-in — as soon as a sale is collected, not just booked
  • Uncapped earning potential as our events footprint grows

Tools & Support Provided

  • Full CRM access
  • QuickBooks access for account/invoice visibility
  • Company phone system
  • Established brand recognition and event track record to sell against

Who We're Looking For

  • Proven sales experience required — we're looking for someone who can hit the ground running; while training is part of our onboarding program, this is not an entry-level sales role
  • Prior event sales experience a strong plus
  • New business sales experience — hunter mentality preferred
  • Comfortable managing multiple event properties and sales cycles simultaneously
  • Existing relationships in the Greater Cincinnati business community a strong plus
  • Self-directed, comfortable with a draw-to-commission structure

Main Street United is the parent company of Cincy Magazine, NKY Magazine, Dayton Magazine, and Ohio Business Magazine, producing regional events including the Good Life Expo, Make Forward Midwest, and Emergent Defense Forums.
