General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Phlebotomy Coordinator, coordinates and processes incoming laboratory specimens and requisitions for Parrish Medical Center, Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St John, Parrish Medical Offices, and other outpatient testing including reference laboratory. Assures the proper distribution of specimens. Coordinates the specimen processing during 1st shift.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Screens/Monitors laboratory specimens and requisitions to assure that proper orders and collection of such specimens are in compliance with established laboratory policies.
  • Enters requisitions, receives specimens, and enters other pertinent information into the Laboratory Information System.
  • Performs duties associated with referred testing including, requisitioning, preparation for shipping, and result entry.
  • Provides all aspects of diagnostic laboratory procedures based on established standards. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to patients served; the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient's needs; a knowledge of growth and development; and an understanding of the range of treatment needed for these patients. The employee will demonstrate competence in the care and treatment of the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric
  • Communicates with clients and physicians offices Parrish Healthcare Center at Port St John, Parrish Medical Center and our reference laboratory clients regarding information inquires for orders, procedure, and collections, etc.
  • Checks requisitions for accuracy.
  • Monitors calls and faxes in the evening hours.
  • Monitors client's pickup schedule by the Lab Aide/Courier.
  • Monitors the pneumatic tube system and delivers specimens to appropriate section.
  • Orders and maintains inventory/supplies for the reference laboratory clients and specimen procurement section.
  • Assists other areas in the laboratory as needed.
  • Knows fire, disaster, and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Formal Education:
  • Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school.

Work Experience:
  • N/A

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • BCLS through AHA required
  • Phlebotomy Certification Preferred
