Job Description:Peckham Inc. - Facilities Material HandlerIMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Wage: $18.18 per hour

Shift: 7:30 - 4:00 Monday - Friday

Location 74 Washington Ave. N, Battle Creek

A Security Clearance is required for this position

SUMMARY

Provides material handling services for all departments in the HDI Federal Center. This includes making deliveries, setting up rooms and building furniture. Successful candidates will have a customer service orientation with warehouse experience and/or the ability to use hand tools and follow instructions for building furniture.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and tear down for events at the Federal Center and other conference centers within a 25-mile radius
  • Load and unload materials and freight utilizing hand trucks or forklifts
  • Assemble and move general office equipment and office furniture
  • Build all systems furniture and complete adjustments daily
  • Pick up and store furniture for reutilization and/or furniture turn-ins for excess
  • Complete paperwork for tracking and inventory purposes
  • Distribute shipments to customers as requested on work order
  • Build skids to accommodate shipments
  • Pick up building purchases from external locations
  • Follow protocol for securing and safeguarding all items received in dock area
  • Drive excess loads to local National Guard base with straight truck as needed
  • Provide motor pool services for various government agencies
  • Command driving; Peckham dress shirt provided for high level dignitaries
  • Transfer vehicles to other locations for vehicle maintenance
  • Coordinate rental vehicles as needed
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment
  • Provide customer assistance upon request
  • Other jobs/duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain secret clearance through the Federal Government (background check includes financial and criminal history)
  • Proficient in the English language (written and verbal)
  • Valid Driver's License with the ability to obtain Chauffer's license and a medical card
  • Demonstrated customer service and team interaction skills are required
  • Exceptional listening skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize assignments
  • Ability to take direction within a team setting and complete team related work promptly
  • Occasionally lift and/or move 80-100 lbs. with regular lifting and moving of 40-50lbs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Prior experience in reading CAD drawings and/or furniture building instructions
  • Experience using basic hand tools (ratchets, socket sets, screw drivers, levels)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Individuals will have designated office space for administrative tasks but will also work alongside team members on the dock and throughout various buildings at the Federal Center. Some duties take place outdoors, requiring employees to work in varying weather conditions. While certain responsibilities are performed independently and require strong selfdirection, employees will also function as part of a team and must be able to collaborate effectively. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate. These conditions reflect the typical environment associated with performing the essential functions of this position. SECURITY

Many positions within the Business Services Division require security clearance. Candidates must successfully pass and maintain all required security and background checks applicable to the position and/or contract. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and ongoing maintenance of all required security and background checks, which may be conducted at hire and on an ad hoc basis as required.
