Job description

Summary/Objective

We are looking for a flexible, results-driven team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work and consistently meet deadlines.

Essential Functions

  • Construct, erect, install and repair wood, metal and concrete structures;
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds and occasionally more.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands and fingers.
  • Use hands and arms fully to reach for, handle and manipulate objects.
  • Climb and maintain body balance on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, crawl or work for long periods at heights required.
  • Access multiple levels of height and depth.
  • Access confined spaces
  • Load, transport, unload and furnish experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment and supplies;
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above or below ground level;
  • Assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installation;
  • Perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment as necessary;
  • Clean tools, equipment, materials and work areas;
  • Restock supplies and materials as necessary;
  • Study blueprints, sketches or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required; and
  • Perform other routine duties such as rigging, metal studs, drywall, lathing, acoustical ceilings, foundation, rough framing, layout, roof framing, concrete forms, level and transit, basic cutting, welding, cabinet making, finish trim, door hanging and hardware, millwright or any other duties as directed.

 

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with the local Union;
  • Completion of apprenticeship program or equivalent experience;
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions, plans and blueprints.
  • Skill to meet the demands of the job;
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy;
  • Compare and recognize differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures and objects;
  • Understand drawings and how they would look as solid objects;
  • Ability to work out of town and varying hours as required, including: over-time, evenings or weekends;
  • Willingness to attend required continuing education classes and receive required training; and
  • Willingness to attend safety meetings, monthly breakfast meetings and quarterly employee meetings.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position may be performed in outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, crawl; use hands and arms fully to reach for, handle and manipulate tools, building materials, and other objects; coordinates the movements of eyes, hands and fingers; climb and maintain body balance on ladders and scaffolding; and access multiple levels of height and depth as well as access and work in confined spaces.

The employee must frequently lift or move materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds and occasionally more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time union position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel is required.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; or
  • 4+ years Journeyman or similar experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Must pass a pre-employment screen, including but not limited to: drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check (if applicable), reference check and physical.
  2. Current and valid drivers’ license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jayne’s automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jayne’s vehicle).
  3. Proof of current completion of a general course recognized by Jaynes in “Hazardous Substances – Recognition and Protection”, First Aid, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens and the OSHA 10-hour class, if applicable. (Or must attend next available class.)
