What is an Ethos Recruiter?

An Ethos Recruiter is a professional responsible for sourcing, attracting, and hiring candidates who fit both the skill requirements and the core values or 'ethos' of an organization. Unlike traditional recruiters, Ethos Recruiters place a strong emphasis on cultural alignment and ensuring that new hires will positively contribute to the company's mission, values, and working environment. Their role often involves collaborating closely with leadership and human resources to define and communicate the organization’s ethos throughout the recruitment process. By doing so, they help build cohesive teams and foster a strong organizational culture.

How does an Ethos Recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and teams to ensure cultural alignment during the recruitment process?

As an Ethos Recruiter, a significant part of your role involves working closely with hiring managers and team leads to understand not just the technical requirements of a position, but also the core values and cultural attributes that define success within the organization. You'll regularly participate in strategy meetings, help craft job descriptions reflecting the company's ethos, and facilitate structured interviews that assess both skills and cultural fit. Building strong relationships and maintaining open communication with internal stakeholders is essential to ensure new hires align with the company’s mission and values, which can be one of the most rewarding yet challenging aspects of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ethos Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ethos Recruiter, you need strong talent acquisition skills, knowledge of recruitment strategies, and a background in human resources or related fields. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR software, and relevant certifications like SHRM-CP are commonly required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness help build trust with candidates and hiring managers. These skills ensure the recruiter can attract top talent and promote a strong organizational culture aligned with company values.

The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and brings a strong ability to source, assess, and close candidates for highly technical roles. You will play a key role in shaping how we build the team—balancing speed, quality, and candidate experience. This position can be remote, or based in Seattle, WA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own full-cycle recruiting across technical roles, including sourcing, screening, interview coordination, and closing candidates.

  • Track and analyze recruiting metrics to identify areas for improvement and increase efficiency across pipelines.

  • Contribute to the development of scalable recruiting processes, tools, and best practices as the company grows.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 4+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, preferably in a high-growth startup or technical environment.
  • Experience recruiting for software engineering roles (e.g., robotics, autonomy, infrastructure).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence hiring decisions and build trust with technical leaders.
  • Experience managing multiple open roles simultaneously with strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with ATS platforms (e.g., Rippling) and sourcing tools (e.g., LinkedIn Recruiter).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and close candidates.
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy while collaborating cross-functionally.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience recruiting in robotics, autonomy, defense, or other deep-tech environments.
  • Experience in both agency and in-house recruiting.
  • Experience hiring for forward-deployed or field-based roles.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup or scaling organization.
  • Strong sourcing skills, including Boolean search and proactive candidate outreach strategies.

Benefits:

Overland AI believes in creating a work environment that you look forward to embracing every day. This is a 9-month contract-to-hire position, with the goal of transitioning to full-time employment based on performance and mutual fit.

  • Hourly range for this position is $50 – $70 USD during the contract period, with potential for conversion to a full-time salaried role.
