Job description

About Ethos
Ethos is a leading life insurance technology company on a mission to protect families by democratizing access to life insurance and empowering agents at scale. With its robust three-sided technology platform, Ethos is transforming the life insurance experience for consumers, agents, and carriers alike. Ethos offers instant, accessible products and a seamless online process that requires no medical exams and just a few health questions; it eliminates traditional barriers, making it easier than ever for everyone to protect their families. Ethos is redefining how life insurance is bought, sold, and underwritten.
About the Role
We're looking for an exceptional product leader to join our Consumer Product team as Director of Product Management. This team is responsible for building a delightful digital consumer experience - from onboarding users and helping them understand their families' needs, to purchasing the right insurance products to protect what matters most. As Director, you will own the strategy and execution of our core consumer product surface, leading a team of product managers and partnering closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, and Marketing. The ideal candidate combines first-principles thinking, deep consumer empathy, and organizational leadership to drive both team excellence and meaningful business outcomes. You'll set the vision, build the team, and be accountable for results at scale. We're looking for an entrepreneurial product leader who is passionate about advocating on behalf of users, building and developing high-performing PM teams, and driving sustainable business growth - all while operating with a high degree of ownership in a product-first company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of product managers, fostering a culture of ownership, experimentation, and continuous improvement
  • Set clear goals and development plans for direct reports; conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching
  • Partner with recruiting to grow the PM team as the business scales, identifying talent and building a strong hiring pipeline
  • Create clarity and alignment across the team on priorities, roadmap, and success metrics

Product Strategy & Vision
  • Define and own the multi-year product vision and roadmap for the Consumer Product team, aligned to company strategy and growth objectives
  • Translate business goals into clear product bets, sequenced for maximum impact and learnings
  • Identify new market opportunities - including new insurance products such as Indexed Universal Life and Whole Life - and develop go-to-market strategies to capture them
  • Stay ahead of consumer trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging technologies to inform the product strategy

Execution & Delivery
  • Own the end-to-end consumer experience, from top-of-funnel acquisition through purchase and onboarding, driving measurable improvements to conversion rates and user satisfaction
  • Educate consumers on the need for Life Insurance and empower them to purchase the right type and level of coverage for their families
  • Champion a culture of rapid experimentation: define hypotheses, design tests, and use results to drive product decisions with rigor and speed
  • Remove friction from the application experience and identify opportunities to motivate users toward completion and coverage
  • Ensure all consumer experiences are built on a foundation of accessibility, delight, and simplicity

Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Leadership
  • Serve as the senior product voice in cross-functional forums, influencing roadmap prioritization and resource allocation decisions
  • Build strong working relationships with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Marketing, and Actuarial partners
  • Communicate product strategy, progress, and results clearly to executive leadership and the broader organization
  • Drive alignment on shared goals across product, engineering, and business teams to ensure cohesive execution

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 8+ years of experience as a product manager at a high-growth technology company, building consumer products at significant scale
  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing product managers, with a track record of growing high-performing PM teams
  • Experience in fintech, insurtech, or other regulated consumer industries is a plus
  • Exceptional ability to generate, test, and refine hypotheses using a blend of data, user insights, and market trends - ensuring product decisions are both innovative and impactful
  • Strong analytical orientation with a focus on data-driven decision making; ability to measure success rigorously across a portfolio of bets
  • Proficiency in self-serve analytics using tools like SQL and Amplitude; comfort partnering with data science for complex analysis
  • Proven ability to transform strategic ideas into actionable roadmaps, rapid prototypes, and iterative, feedback-driven product improvements
  • Demonstrated experience leading and scaling PM organizations, including hiring, onboarding, and developing talent
  • Ability to operate effectively at multiple altitudes - from setting long-term vision to rolling up sleeves on execution when needed
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence; ability to influence without authority across functions and levels
  • Deep track record of solving hard customer problems and translating them into durable business growth
