The Optum Enterprise Epic Services team is building an innovative, comprehensive Epic services capability using the collective expertise of our clinical, consulting, delivery, technology and operations teams.  Our Center of Excellence, located in Nashville, TN, is bringing together some of the greatest minds in the industry to further our mission of making the health system work better for everyone. For you, that means working on high performance teams to leverage the power of technology and services delivery to improve care.  

This is a Manager-level role responsible for leading, managing and mentoring a team of technical experts and maintaining client and vendor relationships during the implementation and operation of a suite of Epic applications. The role requires planning and coordination of technical and project management activities across a multi-layer architecture. This role will have some responsibility for both technical and report configuration.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Epic application design, development, support and other maintenance activities in compliance with IT standards of best practice
  • Manage cogito team and app reporting leads (Application Reporting Workbench Reports and Radar Dashboards) to ensure they are progressing to meet deadlines
  • Work with Epic and Operations to identify and manage the scope of the reporting implementation
  • Stand up and facilitate the data governance group
  • Establish and enforce processes, including request, triage, prioritization, testing, publishing and validating data requests
  • Work with CDOs and the National team to set strategy for each CDO Go Live as well as the project at a national level
  • Provide technical direction, guidance and assistance during project development and accomplish all required formal sign-offs
  • Determine staffing requirements and supervise the work of all direct reports to ensure effective and efficient group functioning.
  • Collaborate with end users to design and build the Epic system in a timely and professional manner and suggest corrective configuration or enhancements
  • Understand the EMFI deployment strategy and how it impacts report delivery to existing and future CDOs
  • Design and document the general functional requirements and detailed technical specifications for a report
  • Set overall build, security, and data segregation strategies
  • Strategize on Legacy Data Mart/Data Warehouse plans
  • Assist with Epic upgrades/updates by serving as a subject matter expert for the Epic Clarity data models
  • Lead Epic upgrade initiatives or enhancements to workflows including the design, build, and test phases
  • Provide technical/clinical workflow consultation including application configuration. Review, analyze, and evaluate systems needs to develop recommendations for customers
  • Develop, support and maintain all required system design and build documents and other system documentation
  • Provide support of application incidents reported through the help desk, including 24/7 on call coverage as required
  • Adhere to organization standards for system configuration and change control
  • Develop solid relationships with end user communities, customers and business partners
  • Attend, participate in, and contribute to meetings throughout the facility
  • Troubleshoot and/or resolve application issues and escalate more complex issues as appropriate
  • Provide support to create new reports, using third party report writing tools to display Clarity data

Required Qualifications:

  • Active/current Epic certifications in at least two areas including one Clarity Data Model 
  • Completed Epic CEE (Continued Epic Education) to maintain certifications, proficiencies, and badges
  • 7 years of combined experience across Healthcare and/or IT environments
  • 5 years hands-on experience supporting Epic applications with direct build, configuration, and optimization responsibilities (end-user-only experience will not be considered)
  • 5 years of experience designing, creating, testing and implementing complex reports using SQL, SSRS, SSIS Enterprise reporting tools
  • 5 years of experience using SQL query techniques and stored procedures to access relational databases with the ability to write efficient queries

  • 5 years of experience managing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously in a complex fast paced, matrixed environment
  • 3 years of experience and solid working knowledge of and with career and talent models, staffing and mobility, and complex project and operating models
  • 2 years of experience in resource management and/or large-scale project management initiatives
  • Advanced proficiency with MS PowerPoint, Excel and other visualization and analysis tools
  • Experience in Epic application build, workflows, and system enhancements
  • Proven communication, organizational, analytical, and process improvement skills
  • Proven consultative skills and a collaborative approach to driving success
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with leadership and build solid relationships across a variety of stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment
  • Proven solid team player that supports and drives organizational goals
  • Proven excellent team management, communication and leadership skills and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion and a culture of innovation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Revenue Data Model active Epic certification
  • Clarity Administrator certification and experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
