This position often serves as a starting point for a career in corporate security, travel safety, or risk analysis.

Can you get a job in risk management without a degree?

Entry level travel risk management positions often require a relevant high school diploma or equivalent, but a degree is not always mandatory. Employers may prioritize skills such as risk assessment, communication, and familiarity with safety protocols, and certifications like CPR or first aid can be beneficial. Gaining experience through internships or related roles can also improve job prospects without a formal degree.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Travel Risk Management professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Entry Level Travel Risk Management, you need a foundational understanding of risk assessment, research skills, and often a degree in security studies, international relations, or a related field. Familiarity with risk analysis software, travel tracking systems, and incident reporting platforms is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are valuable soft skills for this role. They provide practical experience in risk assessment and travel safety procedures, making them a good starting point for a career in travel risk management.

What is the best entry level risk management certification?

For entry-level travel risk management roles, certifications such as the Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) or the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) are valuable. These certifications demonstrate foundational knowledge of risk assessment, mitigation, and safety protocols relevant to travel risk management positions.

How to get a job in the travel industry with no experience?

Entry level travel risk management roles often require strong communication, organizational skills, and a basic understanding of safety protocols. Gaining relevant certifications, such as first aid or security training, and volunteering or internships can help build experience. Networking within the industry and applying for entry-level positions are effective ways to start your career.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level professionals in travel risk management, and how can they be addressed?

Entry-level professionals in travel risk management often face challenges such as quickly assessing unfamiliar risks in dynamic environments, communicating effectively with travelers under stress, and staying up to date with constantly changing global events. These challenges can be addressed by developing strong research and analytical skills, participating in regular training sessions, and collaborating closely with experienced team members and other departments like security and HR. Building a solid understanding of company protocols and leveraging technology for real-time updates also helps new professionals manage risks more effectively.

  • Work closely with GCM colleagues to ensure alignment between crisis response capabilities and TRM program design
  • Support Sales, Program Management, and Client Management teams by providing TRM expertise during RFPs, client renewals, and solution design discussions
  • Conduct research and analysis on TRM standards, regulatory expectations, and industry benchmarks

About you

  • Experience or academic background in Risk Management, Travel Risk Management, Security Studies, International Relations, or a related field
  • Strong presence and TRM experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate complex risk concepts clearly
  • Analytical skills with the ability to assess programs, identify gaps, and develop structured recommendations
