Entry-Level Geotechnical Project Coordinator / Geologist - Austin, Texas

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified professional to join our geotechnical engineering team as a Project Coordinator / Geologist.

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is a leading US based provider of construction assurance, testing and inspection in civil and commercial construction. Our broad service offering includes construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.

What are we looking for?

The Geotechnical Project Coordinator/Geologist role performs a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.

What you'll do:

  • Perform geotechnical laboratory testing including Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, moisture content, and Proctor compaction tests

  • Conduct soil and rock classification and maintain accurate records

  • Assist with field investigations including drilling, sampling, and site inspections

  • Coordinate and manage geotechnical engineering projects
  • Plan field investigations, drilling programs, and site activities
  • Perform soil and rock logging, site assessments, and field observations
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, proposals, and technical documentation
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, laboratories, and project teams
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project completion
  • Support engineers with geotechnical analyses, recommendations, and construction-related services
  • Assist Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (example: Soil, concrete or other) and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • Utilize drawings, specifications, and diagrams
  • Use specific methods and perform tasks to make detailed observations of site activities and give limited interpretation of results
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
  • Prepare laboratory reports and summarize test results

  • Ensure compliance with ASTM and AASHTO standards

  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license and ability to perform fieldwork and reliable driving record and willingness to travel to project sites as required

  • Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed

  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in both field and office environments

  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Prefer a degree in Geology, Geoscience, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related field
  • Experience in geotechnical investigations, construction materials testing, or project coordination is preferred
  • Geotechnical / CMT laboratory experience is preferred
  • ACI (American Concrete Institute) Certification preferred

  • NICET certification or equivalent preferred
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) preferred
  • Working knowledge of soil mechanics and laboratory testing procedures preferred
