Job Title: Specialist, Technical Writing

Job Schedule: 1st Shift 9/80

Job Description:

The Specialist, Technical Writer, will be responsible for creating, developing, planning, writing and editing operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. 

Essential Functions:

  • Research and translate technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users.
  • Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.
  • Documents engineering processes and specifications.
  • Recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.
  • Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.
  • Interact with Engineering stakeholders and customers to accurately capture Publication data and schedule requirements on a regular basis.
  • Work within and lead defined budgets and meet schedule deadlines by employing adaptability and flexibility through change management.
  • Use MS Office Suite and locally created applications to communicate manpower and scheduling of personnel while coordinating with Program Management Office and Technical Publication supervision.
  • Update Digital Flight Manual, Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, Wiring Diagram Manual, Time Compliance Technical Orders, Maintenance Planning, and Task Card data for the VIPSAM fleet of aircraft.
  • Develop and modify the required digital publications in an unstructured environment using FrameMaker software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Clearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with four (4) years of prior experience gathering, composing, and editing technical information for Flight Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Graduate Degree with two (2) years of prior experience gathering, composing, and editing technical information for Flight Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of eight (8) years of prior experience gathering, composing, and editing technical information for Flight Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Aeronautical Publications and/or Engineering experience.
  • Operator experience on VIP Government aircraft.
