Within our Buildings Practice, LJB's structural engineers are widely recognized for their cost-efficient, high-performance designs, particularly in tilt-up construction and steel detailing. Our team is the trusted structural partner for architects, general contractors, and building owners across North America.
We are looking for 2027 graduates to fill the position of Entry-level Structural Engineer for our Buildings Practice in Dayton, Ohio. The structural engineer will analyze, design, plan, and create structural components and structural systems to achieve design goals for LJB clients.
Annual Compensation: $76,000-110,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

ENTRY-LEVEL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ability to complete structural calculations for structural systems including superstructures, foundations, and floor slabs.
  • Assists with the preparation of construction documents needed for vertical building structures.
  • Coordinates with design staff to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
  • Communicates with the team and clients regarding project issues and attends meetings under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Ability to analyze situations and identify ways to improve efficiency.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.
  • Occasionally visits work site, monitoring project progress and reports findings.
  • Ability to meet all safety requirements if/when visiting a work site.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Open to future growth of their position into a Project Manager role, if desired.

ENTRY-LEVEL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or architectural engineering with structural emphasis required.
  • The ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within four years is desired.

Qualifications:
  • CAD experience (Revit and Bluebeam preferred) STRAP or other structural analysis software experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
