Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is hiring a Transportation Technician Senior for our Coeur d'Alene office. This is an entry-level position and the first step in the Transportation Technician Engineering Career Path series. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, eager to learn, and a collaborative team member.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of public infrastructure projects in a region experiencing rapid growth and change. Through ITD's career path structure, you'll gain hands-on experience in both the development and construction of highway projects, with the flexibility to focus on areas that best match your strengths and interests.
This position is located in District 1 - Materials Section, with a primary focus on material testing, including asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates, along with other duties as assigned.
Career Path & Wages
The Transportation Technician Senior career path includes multiple steps, with wage increases upon successful progression:

• Transportation Technician Senior (Entry): $26.43/hour
• Transportation Technician Senior (Step 1): $27.82/hour
• Transportation Technician Principal, Engineering (Step 2): $30.44/hour
• Engineering Assistant, Transportation (TSEA) (Step 3): $33.43/hour

Note: Candidates with at least five (5) years of relevant experience or an associate degree in Civil Applied Technology may be eligible to start at Step 1.
Example of Duties

• Maintain, inspect, and certify laboratories and equipment
• Perform and review material acceptance and verification testing and reporting
• Manage capital equipment inventories and assist with purchasing requests
• Support geotechnical and roadway coring and sampling operations
• Utilize CADD software for modeling and drafting
• Monitor contractor activities for compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules
• Inspect construction projects to ensure adherence to contract requirements
• Maintain accurate daily records of labor, equipment, materials, and quantities
• Coordinate and perform technical engineering work in the field and office
• Calculate, verify, and document quantities, materials, costs, and contractor payments
• Assist licensed engineers with project design, technical reports, and construction plans

Minimum Qualifications
Good knowledge of:

• Computer systems and applications used in engineering/construction and maintenance.

To qualify, applicants must have at least 6 months of work experience in the following:

• Using construction plans, blueprints, drawings, specifications, maps, charts, graphs, manuals, schematics, and/or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data.
• Providing direction, training, or assistance to others on engineering, design, construction, roadway maintenance projects, or other applicable work assignments.
• Identifying and organizing materials, tools, or equipment for construction, roadway maintenance, engineering, design projects or other applicable assignments.

Licensure

• Valid driver's license.
