Entry Level Environmental Technician - Oakland, California

Intertek's project-related assurance, testing, inspection and consulting services are the risk management and quality assurance partner you need to ensure the reliability, safety and performance of your new developments, existing assets and facilities. 

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is a leading US based provider of construction assurance, testing and inspection in civil and commercial construction. Our broad service offering includes construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.

What are we looking for?

The Environmental Technician willsupport the Environmental business by conducting Environmental Consulting work. This includes performing field sampling of building contaminants, indoor air quality, and other components of green buildings for certification. This position will require some off-shift and overtime work, as well as out-of-town travel on occasion.

Shift/Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, can vary depending on workload 

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage for this position is $22-25 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Perform field sampling of building materials for asbestos, lead, PBCs, and other common contaminants.
  • Perform field sampling of indoor air quality assessments.
  • Perform field sampling for specific components of green building certifications such as LEED, WELL, etc.
  • Provide field support in environmental projects such as soil/groundwater sampling.
  • Perform Field Documentation / Report Preparation
  • Maintain Training Records / Field Instrumentation / Certifications (will provide training updates)
  • Coordinate Project Data / Records / Reports related to the work assignments
  • Participate in all QA/QC programs as appropriate and Safety Programs
  • Perform other non-typical assignments upon availability as assigned by management

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1+ years of previous experience in environmental consulting asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold inspecting, sampling, and remediation 

  • Good oral and written communication skills required
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime and willing to work out of town occasionally 
  • Must be able to lift items with weights more than 40 pounds multiple times as needed to complete project requirements
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required
  • Some out of town travel may be required

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • AS or BS Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or some Physical Science is 
  • 1+ years of previous experience in indoor air quality assessments
  • CA State Asbestos Building Inspector Certification
  • CA State Lead Inspector Certification
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge of equipment and systems used for environmental remediation and consulting
  • Knowledge of IH and practical environmental concepts, principles, and practices
