Senior Data Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

FUGA's Data Platform team is looking for a passionate, dedicated and motivated individual to work in our Amsterdam headquarters. In this role, you'll work with large-scale music streaming analytics data and contribute to value-added projects that directly support the business.

The Data Platform team plays a pivotal role in FUGA's data domain, managing and maintaining the DWH, building and maintaining critical data pipelines, and enabling all departments to make reliable, data-driven decisions.

You'll play a key role in fostering a data-driven culture by delivering reliable, scalable data engineering solutions. At FUGA, data drives decisions, optimises operations, and delivers value.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build, maintain, and own data pipelines with Python, GCP, BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, and Spark
  • Design and improve scalable data models for analytics and reporting
  • Ensure data quality through cleaning, validation, and transformation
  • Monitor and improve pipelines for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency
  • Develop components to interact with APIs, databases, and cloud services
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver data solutions aligned with business goals
  • Write clean, testable code integrated with CI/CD pipelines
  • Take ownership of critical data workflows and platform improvements
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing and best practices

WHO YOU ARE

  • Solid experience as a Senior Data Engineer working in GCP or AWS
  • Strong experience building and maintaining production data pipelines
  • Comfortable with SQL for large-scale data processing
  • Confident with Python for ETL and data workflows
  • Solid understanding of data modelling for analytics use cases
  • Experience with Airflow and containerisation using Docker
  • Experience with Spark (PySpark) for large-scale data processing
  • You take ownership of your work and care about quality, reliability, and performance
  • You write clean, maintainable code and pay attention to detail
  • You collaborate effectively and contribute to a strong engineering culture
  • You are proactive, curious, and continuously improving
  • You see the benefit of documentation and proactively document systems, pipelines, and decisions

WHAT SKILLS YOU NEED

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data/Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong SQL skills, ideally with BigQuery or similar data warehouses
  • Python for data processing and ETL
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and structured/unstructured data

NICE TO HAVES

  • Experience or interest in the music or entertainment industry
  • Familiarity with Linux environments
  • Experience with GCP tools beyond BigQuery (e.g. Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Dataform)
  • Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration
