Position Description
The Superintendent (Renewable Energy Division) is responsible for monitoring projects through their full lifecycle with a strong focus on safety, quality, field leadership, schedule execution, documentation, and communication. This role works closely with the project manager/project team and the owner's team, and must be highly organized, proactive, and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Renewable Energy projects require strong field leadership across multiple scopes and fast-moving schedules, often including:
  • Oversight of subcontractors across civil, electrical, mechanical, and testing scopes
  • Experience with ground-mount solar and common systems including fixed tilt and tracker systems
  • Strong daily field execution practices including look-aheads, daily reporting, and proactive issue resolution
  • Solar-specific safety exposure, including PPE considerations noted for "site-specific work (i.e., solar)" and the need for hearing protection where renewable energy mechanisms create hazards
  • Heightened focus on fall protection requirements for rooftop PV environments where applicable (including required setbacks and defined fall protection approaches near roof edges)

Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership, Planning & Schedule
  • Develop phasing plans and look-ahead schedules while communicating progress updates to the project team and stakeholders.
  • Track project progress and maintain schedules on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate all construction activities with trade partners and stakeholders to facilitate completion of the project.
  • Own daily field execution and coordination with the PM team; proactively surface risks, constraints, and staffing/schedule needs.

Safety, Cleanliness & Quality
  • Organize and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly project site and working environment.
  • Enforce site safety requirements and ensure compliance with applicable safety/health standards.
  • Monitor installed work for quality; enforce quality control plans and correct deficiencies quickly.
  • Apply solar-aware PPE practices and hazard controls where work may involve solar-specific risks.

Communication & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a liaison for BEAR and project owners on site in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly and concisely with BEAR project team, owners, architect/engineer, trade partners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Provide clear written documentation to all parties involved on the project.

Documentation & Controls (Critical in Renewable Energy Delivery)
  • Read and understand project documents including drawings, shop drawings, specifications, product data sheets, and schedules.
  • Manage, track, and document project activities including safety, schedules, daily reports, trade hours, material delivery tracking, RFIs/submittals status, photo documentation, change documentation, and punch list items.
  • Utilize project documentation tools (experience with tools like Excel/Procore/Smartsheet has been noted in BEAR Renewable Energy superintendent screening).
  • Understand the importance of proper accounting phase codes and assigning time.
  • Maintain strong photo documentation practices.

Renewable Energy Field Execution Support (Multi-scope coordination)
  • Coordinate subcontractors and workflows to maintain quality and pace of work across scopes.
  • Support QC, layout/verification, inspections, and material verification as part of daily execution expectations.

Materials, Equipment, and Site Logistics
  • Manage equipment and materials as required; track deliveries and staging.
  • Coordinate activities with local permit agencies as needed.
  • Resolve on-site issues and emergencies quickly and effectively.

Position Requirements
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a construction Superintendent preferred.
  • Field experience, trade school, or college degree (Construction Management/Engineering preferred).
  • Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites.
  • Familiarity with MS Office preferred; comfort using documentation and coordination tools.
  • Procore and scheduling software awareness.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to lead and inspire.

Safety / Certifications (Renewable Energy-relevant)
  • OSHA 30
  • Preferred solar-related certifications noted in BEAR solar recruiting include NFPA 70E, SWPPP, and NABCEP Associate (preferred).

Work Schedule & Environment
  • This is a full-time field role supporting active renewable energy projects.
  • BEAR's superintendent offer template references standard field hours as generally 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (or as mutually agreed), with flexibility for project priorities and potential additional hours/weekends.
