Job description

The primary responsibility of R.D Offutt Company night shift Truck Drivers is to make local haul of product from designated farm bins to the customer. All drivers are required to hold a Class A driver's license and maintain a current DOT physical card. Daily timekeeping logs, potato load logs, pre- and post-trip inspections, and scale weight tickets are also the driver's responsibility. Drivers are responsible for loading and unloading trucks, including operating a remote control for loading, and cranking hopper arms open for unloading.

Job Duties Include:
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Operate equipment, such as telephones, to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Collect delivery instructions from the trucking office, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver product.
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using covers.
  • Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
  • Crank hopper doors open and closed.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
  • Climbing in to and exiting trucks multiple times throughout the day.
  • Climbing stairs multiple times a day.
  • Walking on uneven ground at the farm locations.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook.
  • Conduct self in the presence of customers and community so as to present a professional image of R.D. Offutt Company.
  • Proactively seek and participate in available company-sponsored training, in an effort to develop and advance knowledge base and skill set.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner.
