Job description

Pharmacy Technician 1

The Pharmacy Technician 1 prepares medications for patients under the guidance of a Pharmacist. Assists the Pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense medical prescriptions, price-checking, and restocking of drugs.

Core Job Functions:

  • Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information and maintains patient records.
  • Assists pharmacists in filling orders and preparing labels for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals.
  • Receives and stocks incoming medical supplies and drugs.
  • Refers providers' calls and medical questions to Pharmacist.
  • Participates in orientation and assigned training program to attain competency in pharmacy technician duties.
  • Stays abreast of basic knowledge of pharmacy law, regulations and standards, pharmacy informatics and technology including medication dispensing systems, and pharmacy calculations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
