Entry-Level Manufacturing Engineer

Company:

Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) is seeking an Entry-Level Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing St. Louis Structures and Materials Test Lab team in Berkeley, MO. The Manufacturing Engineer is an assembly and installation engineer within BT&E that supports fabrication planning & setup/installation by providing design review, manufacturing plan authorship, and fabrication sourcing (inside and outside of Boeing) followed by support at the aircraft during installation or in the laboratory during setup. They are also expected to work closely with our in-house shop team comprised of tooling and aircraft mechanics which support our operations.
The Structures and Materials Test Lab supports the full structural testing needs of the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Programs in St. Louis and St. Charles, including component tests up to full-scale aircraft testing.
Manufacturing Engineers are owners of the build plan and ensure compliance to design configuration, build plan, and process requirements. Manufacturing Engineering performs Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) analysis and develops an integrated build plan consisting of work instructions for assembly/fabrication, kitting, tooling, inspection requirements, and other outputs to ensure fabrication meets design, test, and program requirements.
As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on the latest military weapons and aircraft programs, such as: T-7A Redhawk, MQ-25A Stingray, various Phantom Works programs, various Boeing Weapons programs, and our legacy programs like F-15 and F/A-18 into the future.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development and implementation of production and tooling methodologies

  • Participates as a member of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) to support the integration of technical solutions across multiple disciplines

  • Supports the development, identification and implementation of conceptual designs and maintenance of the program architecture for build

  • Participates in the implementation of manufacturing plans

  • Investigates technical problems

  • Participates in the implementation of Lean principles and technologies

  • Interfaces with IPTs and internal customers to develop products, skills, knowledge and experience

  • Synthesis of test hardware & instrumentation requirements in support of machine shop fabrication, laboratory and flight test

  • Review of design models and drawings

  • Creating/reviewing redlines and coordinating with design to incorporate updates

  • Authorship of manufacturing plans to facilitate build

  • Sourcing of fabrication & assembly including work statement creation as needed

  • Fabrication coordination and liaison

  • Part sourcing from production

  • Procurement of parts/material to support test

  • Coordination with supplier management

  • Shipside (at the aircraft) support of test hardware and/or instrumentation installation

  • At times support manufacturing engineering tasks across different Boeing sites

  • Close coordination with:

-Test engineers and technicians

-Instrumentation engineers

-Boeing program engineers

-Boeing customers

-Fabrication technicians and support personnel (material management)

-Electrical and mechanical designers across BT&E and program teams


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Experience in engineering design or manufacturing engineering

  • Experience working with manufacturing planning tools

  • Experience with a design tool (CAD package) like CATIA, Siemens NX, etc.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • An active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical or mechanical engineering

  • 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 1 or more years' of experience specific to Manufacturing Engineering

  • Experience working with MESci

  • Experience with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), Flight Configuration Changes (FC) or equivalent engineering request for change

  • Experience with redline creation, review, and coordination with design teams

  • Familiarity with flight test worksheets and/or having worksheet authority

  • Knowledge/familiarity of procurement systems, like eParts

  • Knowledge of electrical (wire shop) fabrication capabilities and processes

  • Experience supporting product testing either in the flight or lab test environment

  • Proficiency in CATIA/ENOVIA/NX/Teamcenter

  • Knowledge of machine shop fabrication capabilities including conventional & CNC machining, EDM, fit/finish tools & processes, and QA inspection

  • Knowledge/familiarity with rapid prototyping processes & tools

  • Familiarity with stress analysis/structural analysis
