Job Title:Lab Technician I
Reports to:Lab Department Supervisor, Lab Department Manager
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting routine laboratory operations under direct supervision. This role includes sample handling, basic laboratory procedures, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety and quality protocols. The Lab Technician I plays a key role in maintaining a clean and organized lab environment while gaining foundational experience in laboratory practices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Log and label incoming samples according to standard procedures under supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space, including routine cleaning of surfaces and equipment.
  • Perform basic laboratory operations such as sample preparation and simple analyses.
  • Prepare standard reagents and media following established SOPs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of laboratory instruments (daily/weekly tasks) with guidance.
  • Document work clearly and accurately in lab notebooks or electronic systems.
  • Assist with specific portions of analyses under direct supervision.
  • Clean and maintain glassware and basic laboratory tools.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with safety and environmental protocols.
  • Follow all Quality Assurance and Environmental Health & Safety procedures.
  • Report any observed non-conformances to senior staff or the Lab Manager.
  • Perform other assigned duties as directed by senior technicians or supervisors.

Pay Rate
$18-$19/hour DOE
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or coursework in science preferred.
  • 0-2 years of laboratory experience (academic or internship experience is acceptable).

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computer systems.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and environmental samples, using appropriate PPE.
