Entry level IT managers often find the shift from hands-on technical work to overseeing teams and projects to be a significant adjustment. Common challenges include developing effective communication and leadership skills, learning to delegate tasks rather than doing everything themselves, and balancing technical problem-solving with administrative responsibilities such as budgeting or scheduling. Additionally, they may need to quickly adapt to managing diverse teams and resolving interpersonal conflicts. Proactively seeking mentorship and training in management techniques can help smooth this transition.

Job description

Now Hiring: Entry-Level IT Technician

No experience required — we will train the right person. What we can't train is a great attitude and a heart for helping people.

Zynphony Technology is a growing, cybersecurity-first managed IT services provider serving small and mid-sized businesses across Southeast Texas. We're looking for an entry-level IT Technician to join our support team. This is a launchpad role: if you have the right mindset, we'll teach you the technical skills on the job and give you a clear path to grow into a Tier 2 technician and beyond.

Here's the honest truth about this role: most of what makes a great IT technician isn't the technology — it's how you treat people. Our clients call us when something is broken, frustrating, or scary to them. The right person for this job stays calm, listens well, communicates clearly, and makes the client feel taken care of, even before the problem is fixed.

What You'll Do

•      Be a friendly, professional first point of contact for clients calling or emailing with technology issues — by phone, email, and remote support tools

•      Walk clients through basic troubleshooting steps with patience, clarity, and a calm tone, even when they're frustrated

•      Assist with day-to-day support tickets: password resets, printer issues, software installs, basic connectivity problems, and account setups

•      Support both Windows and Mac OS desktop environments

•      Help with basic networking tasks (connecting devices, troubleshooting Wi-Fi, checking cables/ports) under guidance from senior technicians

•      Document your work clearly in our ticketing system so the whole team stays informed

•      Shadow and assist senior technicians on more complex issues as part of your ongoing training

•      Occasionally assist with on-site visits to local client locations in Houston and surrounding areas

What We're Looking For

This is an entry-level position. We are far more interested in who you are than what's on your resume. You're a strong fit if you:

•      Genuinely enjoy helping people and take pride in making someone's day a little easier

•      Have strong emotional intelligence — you can read a room (or a phone call), stay calm under pressure, and respond to frustration with patience instead of defensiveness

•      Communicate clearly and professionally, in both writing and conversation

•      Are comfortable using a Windows PC and a Mac for everyday tasks (email, file management, settings, basic troubleshooting)

•      Have a basic understanding of how home or small office networks work (Wi-Fi, routers, modems — you don't need to be an expert)

•      Are naturally curious about technology and enjoy figuring out how things work

•      Show up on time, follow through on commitments, and take ownership of your work

•      Are coachable — open to feedback and eager to learn new skills

Nice to have (not required):

•      Any prior customer service experience (retail, restaurant, call center, hospitality, etc.)

•      Coursework, certifications in progress, or personal experience building/repairing computers

•      A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for occasional local client visits

What We Offer

•      Starting pay: $15.00–$18.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skills during the interview process

•      Paid, hands-on training — we'll teach you our tools, our processes, and the technical fundamentals you need to succeed

•      A clear growth path toward Tier 2 Technician and beyond, with pay increases tied to skill development

•      Support and mentorship from an experienced team that wants to see you succeed

•      A stable, growing local company with a strong reputation in the North Houston business community

•      Monday–Friday schedule (occasional flexibility for client needs)

How to Apply

We read every application, and we want to find the right match as much as you do. To help us get to know you (and to make sure this role is genuinely a good fit for you too), please submit your resume along with short written answers to the following:

1. Describe a time you helped someone who was frustrated, confused, or upset — whether at a job, school, or volunteering. What did you do, and how did it turn out? (3-5 sentences)

2. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your comfort level with Windows and Mac computers? Give one specific example of something you've done on each (e.g., installing software, changing settings, troubleshooting an issue).

3. Why are you interested in starting a career in IT, and what does "great customer service" mean to you?

Applications that do not include written answers to the questions above will not be considered. This step helps us focus our interview time on candidates who are genuinely excited about this opportunity and can communicate clearly in writing — a core part of this job.
