Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
Responsibilities include executing Licensed Independent Provider orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting with examinations and treatment of patients.
The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents.
The role includes performing all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.
Nursing skills are applied in the care and treatment of inmates/residents.
The RN attends sick calls with the physician to see inmates/residents, prepares a list of those to be examined, and prepares the examining room and equipment.
The RN operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures.

Examination and assessment of new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries is performed, referring them to emergency facilities as required.

Monitoring of inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases occurs as directed.
The RN provides guidance, supervision, and monitoring of care furnished by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
Maintaining good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies is important.
