What is an entry level ESG?

An Entry Level ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) job involves supporting sustainability initiatives, responsible investing, and corporate social responsibility efforts. Responsibilities may include conducting ESG research, analyzing data, assisting with reporting, and ensuring compliance with sustainability regulations. These roles are commonly found in finance, consulting, corporate sustainability teams, and non-profit organizations. Strong analytical skills, knowledge of ESG frameworks, and an interest in sustainability are key for success in this field.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an entry level ESG?

As an Entry Level ESG professional, your daily tasks often include collecting and analyzing sustainability-related data, assisting with ESG report preparation, and supporting senior team members with research on emerging regulations and industry best practices. You may help coordinate cross-departmental initiatives focused on environmental or social impact, maintain documentation for audits, and track key performance indicators tied to ESG goals. This role usually requires regular collaboration with departments such as compliance, operations, and investor relations, providing valuable exposure to various aspects of the business. Gaining hands-on experience in these areas is an excellent foundation for advancing within the ESG field.

To thrive as an Entry Level ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) professional, you typically need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, finance, or business, and a foundational understanding of sustainability concepts. Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (like GRI or SASB), data analysis tools (such as Excel), and sometimes certifications like SASB FSA or GRI Standards are often required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities help candidates excel in both data-driven tasks and cross-functional collaboration. These qualifications are crucial for supporting accurate ESG assessments, reporting, and compliance within organizations committed to sustainability initiatives.
