Job description

About the Position

Axis Product Development is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Buyer, Outside Processing to join our team. This entry-level position is responsible for coordinating all subcontracted manufacturing processes required to support the production of precision-machined components for aerospace, defense, and commercial customers.

The Buyer, Outside Processing serves as a critical link between Production, Quality, Planning, Shipping & Receiving, and outside suppliers. This role combines purchasing, supplier management, expediting, and logistical coordination to ensure customer requirements and delivery schedules are achieved.

The ideal candidate is willing to learn, highly organized, thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and is comfortable working both at a desk and throughout the shop floor.

Will learn on the job how to work with outside suppliers, planning, and production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Purchase and coordinate outside processing services including anodizing, plating, passivation, heat treating, painting, grinding, and other special processes.

  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations based on cost, quality, lead time, and capability.

  • Issue and manage purchase orders for outside processing requirements.

  • Schedule and coordinate shipments to and from suppliers.

  • Monitor supplier delivery performance and proactively expedite orders to support production schedules.

  • Work closely with Production, Planning, Quality, and Shipping & Receiving to ensure jobs move efficiently through the manufacturing process.

  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure processing requirements are properly communicated to suppliers.

  • Verify receipt and accuracy of certifications, test reports, and processing documentation.

  • Maintain approved supplier records and support supplier performance evaluations.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with outside processing suppliers.

  • Assist with resolving supplier quality, delivery, and documentation issues.

  • Identify opportunities to improve supplier performance, reduce lead times, and lower processing costs.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within purchasing and supply chain operations.

  • Assist with packaging, receiving, and movement of outside process work as needed.

Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Quickbooks

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

Preferred
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, or precision machining industries.

  • Knowledge of common outside processes including anodizing, plating, passivation, heat treating, painting, and grinding.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.

  • Knowledge of AS9100 quality systems and aerospace documentation requirements.

Work Environment

This position is based in a CNC manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with Production, Quality, Shipping & Receiving, and outside suppliers. The successful candidate will divide time between office-based purchasing activities and shop-floor coordination to support production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
