Description The Public Relations Assistant helps handle day-to-day media content creation and public communications. This is a great entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government communications, media relations, and storytelling while contributing to the Office of the Indiana Attorney General's mission. Examples of Duties Capture and edit videos and photos at events, press conferences, community outreach, and office activities to support communications efforts; Write and draft press releases and short statements under guidance; Create engaging social media content (posts, captions, graphics ideas) for platforms like X/Twitter and Facebook to share office updates and initiatives; Assist in monitoring local and state news, current events, and social media mentions related to the Attorney General and office priorities; Help prepare monthly newsletters and other basic communications materials; Support coordination of media-related activities, such as assisting with press events or distributing materials; Build and maintain positive working relationships with the Attorney General, team members, media contacts, and the public; Works well under pressure and handles stress; Accepts performance-based criticism and direction; and Performs other communications duties as assigned.

Typical Skills and Qualifications A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or a closely related field preferred, but not required, including strong academic credentials; 1-3 years of related experience; Comfortable shooting/editing video and taking photos; Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills; Strong communication skills; Understanding of print, broadcast, and online media; Interest in social media content creation and basic editing tools; Knowledge of current issues and events in which the Attorney General is involved; Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills; and Ability to meet deadlines, accept feedback. and work in a team setting.
